Sean Brady adds to growing mat reputation and scores win over grappling superstar Craig Jones

Does this add to the case that Brady could be one of the best grapplers in the UFC?

I don’t follow sport Jiu Jitsu that much but I looked up Jones and he is no joke. Being able to survive and beat a specialist like Jones is huge. Jones tapped Burns and Sonnon fast

I heard Jones pulled guard, Brady stood tight in closed guard with an underhook. Nothing happened outside of that.

I have said that Brady is incredibly strong from top position and if you play a closed guard with him that is a losing strategy. You have to continuously work to stand up to tire him out which has happened in some of his bouts. He is too compact and his shoulder pressure is too good to attempt submissions from guard. To beat him you have to put him on his back where off of his back he is nowhere near the level he is on top. Look at how quickly Chiesa passed guard after the outside trip and mounted him.

In MMA anyone who plays the guard with him at 170lbs will go on to lose by decision. If your scrambling ability isn’t good he will grab your neck and crank on it till you tap.

How good is Brady though? Chiesa is a grappling wizard and will pretty much grapple fuck anyone he gets to the ground. Can Brady be a top 5 fighter

I’ll be honest, I doubted him, but it seems so.

Chiesa has been finished enough on the ground and fairly recently too.

In a 5 round fight, Brady will have trouble with Luque, Burns, Belal, Khamzat, etc. Not including Colby and Usman. He is going to have to work really hard to keep them flat on their back and the majority of them are more fluid in their stand up movement than he is.

At the same time all he does is win so far so we won’t know until he gets matched up with them. We can all agree though that Chiesa is the best fighter he has faced in his entire career. Aguilera isn’t top 25, Naurdiev is a decent prospect, Mcgee is a good test but not top 25 either, and Jake Mathews is hit or miss when he flashes potential. I expected Brady to manhandle Chiesa into an easy submission and for his part Chiesa kept getting back up and beating the shit out of Brady on his feet. 30 seconds left and Chiesa gets the first tko victory of his career. That was a very disappointing performance.

I think so but he will need to tighten up his striking

Fury took out heel hooks I’m assuming from the cub Swanson incident but I definitely expected more from the match it was a great event though. Craig pulled right away was basically a stale mate at knee shield Craig had a few arm isolations to begin attacks on inverted armbars/arm crunch. Sean was able shake them all and clear the arm. I’m not sure what the judging criteria was honestly, there were a few decisions that didn’t make much sense for a subonly event. Craig had no near sweeps and basically just kept Sean from passing the whole time. Sean had the home town crowd and good stalling anti bjj top control so I think just that edged him over I can’t remember him even having a look at a sub though. Craig basically said the match sucked at the end and neither found anything past each others frames.

Guida vs billy Q was awesome non stop action w billy throwing up subs the entire time. Guida wore a singlet and wrestling shoes snatched a tight head and arm as time ran out.

Esparza gave herself a nasty cut from a slam from the closed guard and lost from it. I expect rose to be punching at that non stop. Kelly had a crazy hematoma from the impact forming.

Kevin Holland vs Maia wrestling coachkody hamrah I believe it is, is a really fun one from the event too.

Heel hooks weren’t allowed with cub, he just tried to spin out of a reap and his knee stayed in one place and the rest of his body went to another.

I don’t see Craig placing at adcc next year tbh. I think Nicky Rod outworks and upsets Gordon.
