They market extremely well. I think their gi's are pretty top notch and not overpriced. I think the hate comes from the eBay prices ppl pay..
Btw I have a a1 Americana,a2 yin, and a1 yang if anyone wants one. I only plan on keeping one of them. Not gonna charge you eBay prices.

Ive got one, quality is great. this was my seventh gi, 2 SYR's 2 Vulcans, 2 Gamness, and a Koral. The new SYR and my Vulkan pro lites are my favorites. The Koral was but its going on 6 years old and its starting to show its wear.. The pants almost have more patches than pants left..

I'm a white belt, and I own a shoyoroll. I didn't buy it to look "trendy". I wanted to see what all the hype was about and I actually fall perfectly in the range of an A2. While this is the most comfortable gi I've owned, it's not like shoyoroll is the END ALL BE ALL of gis. I agree scalping the gis on eBay is a total douche move, but I wouldn't go as far to blame a white belt for purchasing a gi. At the end of the day, let them spend their money on what they want, if they continue to train, that's great. It's not like it's your money going to waste.

The thing about SYR is they live the sport. You are going to pay just as much for any of the other top of the lines GIs so I don't think price is an issue. I much rather support someone living the lifestyle than just trying to make money off some Gis.
I may have to scout around to see if I can trade to get the Golden State. I like the idea of the Gi trimmed out in my belt color.

I agree w/ Snow. White belts should worry about getting better at BJJ rather than buying Shoyoroll gis. We got a bunch of dumbass white belts at our gym who all bought Shoyorolls to look cool.

As far as price goes they are comparable but they are totally different weight,cut, and feel. I love both the SYR and the Atama Gold Weave. But they are totally different, SYR is light and the Gold is not. That's what I meant by comparing apples to oranges. If I was going to pick a similar weight I would probably say Koral, but they are overpriced as well.
If your buying it at retail price then what's the big deal? Your gonna pay 160-175$ for a lot of top tier gi's. I know it's a rip off and there's probably a 80% mark up but the market determines the price. If they are selling then what do you expect them to do? I would agree that your a nut if you pay 300$ on eBay for one though.
Art Corvelay - I remember when people were scared of showing up with a blue gi until they were blue belts, and mysteriously everyone got a black gi when they picked up purple. Now you see beginners in red, camo, black, tuxedo, etc.
