Shoyoroll

im an a3 and i bought the 450 comp and the pants are way too short. Im 6 foot tall 210 pounds and they are like 4 inches too short. I never put the pants in the dryer, and I put the top in the dryer multiple times cause the coat was pretty big. I don't know why they are called comp, I would be disqualified if that were the gi I tried to wear. I read that gi wasnt too good and the regular batches are better.

There is a lot of satisfied people so I ordered the 7th son. The wait time is way too long. Fortunately I have a couple other gis that I wear so I am not sweating it. But making people pay full price for a gi and then making them wait two months for it and keep posting next week is not cool.

The Golden State gis look beautiful. Im sure hoping my 7th son fits right cause I don't want to be a dickhead and put it on ebay for 2x what it is worth.

its all good shoyo, i tossed the pants recently.

to be fair, i LOVED my batch 6 until the pants ripped and still the top is one of my favorite of all time

I'm 6'4" and 185 lbs.

The sleeves on the A3s jacket were about 3 inches too long. (Batch 6?). The pant length was great but they were like skinny jeans. Way too tight. I gave up on them after about 4 uses.

I bought a pair of A4 pants separately and I really like them but they are 4 to 6 inches too short.

I'd be more impressed with Shoyoroll if they kept their stuff in stock. The whole pre-order with a few hours before selling out is crap. There are pleanty of other gi's out there that IMO are just as good, cheaper, and more readily available.

they have been jacking up demand with those gimmicks, it appears people have grown tired of it.

The recent pre-order for the Yank model was much fairer (12hr sale and everyone who ordered in the sale window will get a gi), and Vince has mentioned that he's looking into having an always in stock model.

This allows them to keep the price high... people feel there is perceived value with the gis because they are hard to come by. It's the same thing with diamonds. Diamonds are not a "rare" gem. They are owned by a few companies that are able to control the flow into the market, thus forcing the prices up.

LOL at the quality being below Fuji. I agree about the hype being overblown, and the pre-sale at 2am is crap, but they really are great gis.

If you're one of the guys who don't get a decent fit based on their sizing, that sucks. Mine fit perfect & are by far my favorite gis.

thebasher - guys why didn't you post pictures of the first batch of 7th sons that you said arrived weeks back ? People on the facebook site have been getting frustrated at the lack of communication.

Did these first batch of GI's arrive - were they also held up in customs ?

would still really appreciate a response to this

oh I get this, but I compare it to the Lucky Gi's. Everybody was going apeshit over them for a bit and now you rarely here ANYTHING about the new models when they come out. From the shrinkage issue, being overpriced, pants falling apart, etc etc. Its only a matter of time. And if people want to pay at times 200 and up for something gi's taht are NOT of the highest quality and will not last nor fit, that is their problem. The only way I put that type of cash down is for certain judo gi models in which they ask your measurements and the gi FITS you PERFECT, does not break down easily, is comfortable as hell w zero shrinkage even when put in the dryer (and my gear never hits the dryer, always hung dry). If you gotta pay high then it needs to be for the highest quality and while it does seem the SYR gi's are great gi's, the quality does NOT justify the price. People will fizzle over this nonsense like they did the Luckies soon enough.

Personally I don't think the SYR is that overpriced. It's fairly level with the likes of Atama, Koral and Keiko, so compared to the major brands it's pretty even, and far cheaper then Lucky.

Now whether any gi is worth $160 is a whole different argument... IMO any gi at that price should be 100% preshrunk, not a single loose thread, and the company should be offering a fitting service of the type Fushida and many other Judo companies do where you send in a full set of measurements and they work out the best fit based on that (and be willing to back it up by offering an exchange with free shipping). It's just too much money to be spending sight unseen on kit that might possibly not shrink enough, shrink too much or just fall apart after a month.

Who owns that new Ouano gi and how is it? Im on the fence between this and the Fujita Komodo

i have the ouano, its the same if not better

if you have a sizing issue with SYR i imagine you'll have the same with ouanos

Funny thing is, I remember when I started in BJJ "awesome" gis were the thicker the better. Anyone have or remember the double weave Atamas? THAT was a gi. Now we are asked to pay twice as much for half the material. Personally I don't like the whole ultra lite, ripstop, lightweight trend going on. There is really nothing magical or higher quality about these top level gis. I did give in and buy a Lucky Gi when I got my black belt as a present to myself. It was definitely cool looking but it has since torn and ripped worse than ANY other gi I've owned. My best gi to date was my first one. A $75 Gracie Academy gi from Tiger (I think). Lasted forever. My next gi is going to be a simple single weave Howard for 95 bucks. Phone Post

I remember those times. 10 years ago if anyone had shown us a superlight style gi we would have laughed at how thin and flimsy it was.

All premium gi's $20.00 off from now til December 18th.

My first gi was the Howard double weave.  A real suit of armor.  Fucker could stand up on it's own. I eventually went the route of the super ultra crazy light, but in the last year have gone back to a regular, middle of the road single weave, which I'm diggin and don't see myself going back and forth again.

This trend in bjj gis are because of these tournaments that make you weigh in WITH gi. They're looking at minimum weight with maximum strength. It's qualities that are not complementary. If you want just speed you'll get away with a fairly cheap car like a Lotus. But you want a good level of both in one car you're looking at "high" prices for example Bentley.
