Just days berfore the fight there was a video-interview with him around here where it came up that a lot of people around him have been on his case to make him retire, including Ed Soares. Why? A vague statement that they all want him to get out before he looses. Yet he's on the top of his game and must make a pretty good living.
Then all these extremly uneven performances and statements, sometimes he's like a superhero, then all of a sudden he gets nothing done, at one point he wants to do pro-boxing, then he wants to move up in weight, then he decides to stay and defend the MW belt. Sometimes he's super humble and soft, then all of a sudden he's cocky as shit and almost hostile. Sometimes he's retiring, then all of a sudden he busts out some new lofty plan.
THis is not bashing him, I'm a huge fan, but I think something is going on with him that we don't know about, maybe a long-term health-issue or something.
ADHD IMHO
I just get the feeling that it doesn't make any sense. People around here think he was toying with Leites, Coté, Maia, even Sonnen (saying he wanted to win by sub specificaly), yet he's so worried about loosing the belt it's worth giving up his entire career for? It doesn't add up. Something gave me the hunch he's in the middle of some shit that he can't control and that won't let him fight at the top of his ability. I thought health-issue of some kind, family or other personal situation
West Coast Nancy - he failed in japan
came over to the ufc in a weak division
got some opportunistic fights
people portrayed him as an invincible fighter
he got bored/underestimated opponents/division got more stacked
wants to retire before he faces anybody real
sonnen exposed him
okami and belfort are chomping at the bits for this easy title fight
This^
I'd rather see him retire than see him hobble around the octagon as a shadow of himself, taking brutal punishment that's for damn sure. Not saying he's anywhere close to that state now, but maybe those people begging him to call it quits know something we don't.
Styles make fights. Anderson had never fought a wrestler before
And no i do not count Dan since he doesnt use his wrestling for groundcontrol
something definately seems different. whats with the wild hooks he throws so often now? what happened to his snappy straight punches? just looks alot more sluggish.
weak division my ass. marquadt, franklin, henderson were all legit when he was wrecking everyone. forrest as well.

I'll tell you exactly what happened, and it's not a mystery or a conspiracy theory. Did you notice something different about the way the fight started? Usually Anderson likes to circle around his opponents for 2-3 minutes to get his range and timing down. Chael had a perfect game plan, he never allowed him to get his range and timing down. It's as simple as that. Once Anderson has you figured out, he'll pick you apart. You have to constantly mix it up, never giving him the chance to adapt.

I agree, I think folks are selling Sonnen short. He flat out refused to let Anderson dictate the fight to him, and fought him at all times, standing or on the mat.
Jons Forsberg -androushka - I thought health-issue of some kind, family or other personal situation
he has fought 13 times in the UFC in 4 years. I don't see how anyone with health issues of any kind would be that active and not lose. I'm Pretty sure he's the most active UFC champion.
He's loaded and he's 35 and he's undefeated in the org. People around him just want to see him cement his legacy retiring on top.
He could have been diagnosed with something that hasn't showed up much yet but that will in time/soon. I hope you're right though. There's just been a lot of strange things around Anderson latly.
Edited to add: and I don't want to take anything away from Sonnen, I can see how what he did just didn't left Anderson the space to do his thing, I'm not talking about just the Sonnen-fight though
WoundedKnee -he got blasted for four rounds but didn't have a mark on him. Chael looked like a zombie flick, though, did you notice that? Sonnen's BEST were not hurthing Anderson and that's why he was taking so much of that "punishment" because it wasn't hurting him as much as the crowd oohed and aahhed. I don't think he was getting hurt at all, just biding his time and waiting for an opportunity. I think he was waiting for Chael to gas out too, but that really didn't seem like it was going to happen, so it was fucking up his game plan a little. Chael fought like a beast and did great, but at the end of the night, Silva probably went home and took an Advil while Sonnen had to ice his face for the sleepless evening.
If I were him after that Chael fight, I would probably be thinking more and more about retirement. He's 35, and just got blasted for 4 rounds by a guy that had no business lasting more than 2 rounds with him. Het took virtually zero punishment in his previous fights in the UFC..
If that's not a sign, I don't know what is.
No way Silva was just waiting for an opportunity that whole time. He was swinging desperatly a few times, plus a lesser ref could have almost stopped the fight (for "unanswered blows")
"Silva probably went home and took an Advil while Sonnen had to ice his face for the sleepless evening."
Yeah because everyone knows brain trauma is visible on your face!!
Dont quit your job at Mcdonalds anytime soon
In that other thread, where he talks about God he said "all was lost" just before he smacked th triangle on Sonnen

+1. Exactly!
Chael, in defeat, wrote the blueprint to beat Silva. He'll lose against Belfort or Okami.
Chango
Probably Because of his previous lackluster performances silva was forced ( because of the fan outcry) not to stick and move and instead engage in exchanges with sonnen from the very beginning. I think that silva can indeed run circles around sonnen and pick him apart with but unfortunately had to fight another strategy inorder to please the fans.

Is horse shit.
Are you kidding? Anderson has been exposed?

During this time, Anderson has also fought shortly after having surgery to BOTH of his knees. All fighters have health issues, it's not a matter of "if", it's a matter of how bad and how often.
All this could be consistent with some kind of bipolar behavior pattern...but it's also just as consistent with a skillful manager doing hard negotiations and demonstrating that he his fighter has other options - he can possibly get bigger money boxing, and he also has the money saved to simply retire if the UFC doesn't play ball.
Silva is FINE. He got outworked for 23:10 before pulling off a remarkable submission. It was as championship-caliber as it gets.
Too many conspiracies. He went against a big, strong, and accomplished wrestler who pours it on. No one ever said wrestling was the dude's strong suit. Chael did the same thing to Marquardt and Okami (not to mention 20+ others). Silva found Chael's most glaring weakness and exploited it when it counted the most. I don't think his "health" had anything to do with the beating he was taking before it.
Andy had bad ribs.
