Gobulcoque -what you dont take into acct is the cumulative damage leg kicks inflict on a fighter......sure leg kicks might not end as many fights as other strikes but a fighter whose legs have been battered with kicks will lose spring in his step, making his punches, kicks, takedowns, guard game, overall movement suffer a great deal.....leg kicks should still count for damage..paluka - video games? wtf. That's like saying body punches don't do anything. It's not just a KO that wins fights. The more things you have to defend against the more dangerous the fight.
Most superman punches are setup with some sort of leg kick or feint. It adds fatigue, and slows people down. How is it not effective?
Noone said they weren't effective at all, they're just not as effective as other strikes.
How many fights have been ended by leg kicks? How many fights have been ended by punching someone in the face? How many by head kick?
Guess which one is going to have the lowest number. That means they're secondary offense and not very effective.
also add to the fact MOST mma guys leg kicks are light years behind true kick boxers and muay thai fighters.....did you see how many times those TUF contestants cried uncle when that drunk French Muay Thai fighter tapped them with his shin

There are exceptions to every rule. In a handful of fights, leg kicks made all the difference in the world. However, for the most part, Sonnen is somewhat correct. IMO part of the reason this is true is due to poor technique.
Perhaps more fighters need to learn the proper technique of throwing a leg kick and it would be a more effective weapon - as it is now, most fighters just throw it out there like a slap.
