hi, what are the benefits of squatting 100lbs(bl lol) 100 times in 10 minutes every other day? if any? the reason i am asking is i canceled my gym membership and dont really feel like going to a new one or renewing. i have a 70lbs dumbbell and have a self made vest with 30lbs. will this get me stronger?, just make me stay in shape? get me in better shape if i do it in less time? or weaken my max?(my max sucks compared to the og, its 225lbx5)
ill be wearing the vest and picking up the dumbell in front squat form.
Get a heart rate monitor. FIgure out your HRmax. See where doing this regime takes you. Keep a record. If your heart rate moderates, and resting rate decreases, then it is having a training effect. You'll probably get some hypertrophy, depending on how you respond to high reps.
You can do 'goblet' squats. You hold the dumbell (with secure collars) like a goblet, end up and squat ass to grass. It's a good exercise.
If you wanna supplement your leg day with another killer good exercise that requires minimum equipment, find yourself some good safe stairs (100 or so if possible) run them bitches for 25-30 mins. I think you'll find great muscular and cardio benefit from this.

"greentrousers - hi, what are the benefits of squatting 100lbs(bl lol) 100 times in 10 minutes every other day? if any"?
Then you'll get really good at 100x100x10, and you will soon be able to squat 101 lbs x 100 times in 10 minutes, or 100 lbs x 101 times in 10 minutes, or 100 lbs x 100 times in 9 minutes 59 seconds.
"i have a 70lbs dumbbell and have a self made vest with 30lbs. will this get me stronger?"
No, just having them will not get you stronger.
"just make me stay in shape? get me in better shape if i do it in less time?"
It depends on what shape you're in now. Someone who can do 100 reps of 100 lbs in less time than another would likely be considered to to be in "better shape", but perhaps could be in "worse" shape if based on relative strength terms. Since you're only comparing yourself, given no or negative weight difference, then yes, you will be in better shape than before.
"or weaken my max?(my max sucks compared to the og, its 225lbx5)"
Normally doing exclusively high reps will weaken your 1 max rep, but it depends on how much effort you've put into establishing your 1 max rep and how much time you spend on doing this new routine and what variables you change along the way.
"ill be wearing the vest and picking up the dumbell in front squat form."
Then you'll do fewer reps with higher weight than not using the vest and dumbbell. Is that what you want?
I'll bet if you really thought about your question, you could have come to the same conclusions.
if you suck at squats...this might not be a bad idea. Repetition with light weights can train you to squat better. I think you might be better off switching off this and doing real volume once you can squat correctly.
I sucked at them, then started 10x10 but I built up to a weight that would exhaust me. Some people call it the German Volume training; eventually got up to 225lbs x 10 x 10.
Yes...I want to vomit everytime I can complete this.

fyi max means max for 1 not max weight 5 times.....
Two things I can think of that would make that brutal:
1. Try to do 100 thrusters 3 times a week, 50 each arm, using as much leg drive and as little arm drive as possible.
2. Do 100 burpees with a clean and jerk/push press, 50 each side.
These are activities which high-reps will really have an affect on your abilities. 100 squats won't be quite as great.
i've done 135 x 50. Brutal
Yes. doing 100 x 100 will get you in shape. Its far better than nothing. But you have other choices like was mentioned.
Lunges, jumping squats, burpees, step ups.
And how did every one forget Pistols? Nobody on this board can do a pistol with 100 pounds. You start doing weighted pistols and you wont have to worry about leg strength.
thanks a lot everyone for all these options, yeah i can't do a pistol just yet, but i gave up trying since one of the threads here said it was mostly about flexibility than real strength.

That same thread also said pistols in reps are great strength activities.

And weighted pistols.
professional rower at my gym squats 130 - 140 lb's for 100 reps, all performed deep.
he usually knocks out about 70 reps straight, pauses for about 5-6 seconds then finishes with the last 30. all done with the idea of endurance in mind.
he single squats over 300 lb's.
he weighs 185lb and stands about 6ft
For a few hundred bucks buy an olympic weight set. Save a few more bucks and build or buy a rack and a bench. Now you can lift real weight without having to shell out money month after month at a health club.
