Strategy To Beat Tyson In MMA

I would use legs kicks and try to hit and run like Ernesto Hoost did in his rematch against Bob Sapp. If possible, I might even try to take it to the ground if he doesn't knock me out before that happens and if I can't beat him, then I guess I can do to him what he does best, BITE him!

The first thing I would do was take the intimidation factor away. I would make Mike think I was crazy and thus unafraid of him. On the night before the fight, I would call the Press and the Police, saying there was a big disturbance at Mike's crib. Then, when there were plenty to people to keep us apart, I would start screaming like a lunatic that I didn't want to wait until tomorrow and wanted him right now.

During the staredown, I would tell him that I don't like him, I was going to hurt him and and no referee will be able to keep me from killing you.

The first part was what Ali did before he fought Sonny Liston.

ttt for some drunken, late night responses.

low leg kicks wouldnt be a good idea, saying the legs would be used{low kicks}to keep him away wouldnt be good,as soon as a leg kick connected a bomb would be on the end of it from mike, very few fights are stopped with low leg kicks,i think the best way would be clinch or low shoot.

Domingo's post was really good. Especially the part about learning some boxing before you get in the ring with a boxer. Actually, a world class one. Good luck. *Gulp*

Knowing how punches look helps with setting up the takedown, even if it is from 12 feet out.

jonpall....I don't think it would be necessary to be able to Box to beat Tyson. If you were going to beat him standing up, you would need great kicks/knees and the ability to follow up with your hands/elbows.

Most any Gracie would beat Tyson without any Boxing or needing any good striking at all. You can't punch effectively from the bottom of the mount or sidemount, or when someone's on your back, even if you hit like Tyson. The more rounded you are as a fighter, the more you would keep your opponent from knowing what to expect. For example, if you practice your kicking skills and get good, it will be easier to land your punches. Tyson is a one dimensional fighter, you know what to expect. I think Tyson would be open for punches also, after you set them up with kicks. Tyson has said he didn't want to get kicked in the head, I think it would be good to let him block or eat one right away. That would be cool to see an MMA fighter KO Tyson with a head kick, instead of choke him out or arm bar him.

I am not a MMA fighter and have no intention of fighting Tyson, this is for discussion purposes only, unless the offer was right. LOL.

toddseney is correct. The more you know about what your opponent wants to do to you, the better you can defend.

Gary Hughes

Take him down quickly.

After you get him off his feet he would be toast against any fighter with any grappling skills.

mayiwhoopu...I think that would be a great strategy for a ground fighting specialist. I have much more experience as a stand up fighter, so that wouldn't be my strategy. Of course, if I didn't like the way the stand up was going, I would try to get him down ASAP.

Gary Hughes

not a good idea to pretend your crazy to try an intimidate some1 who is infact mentally desturbed as mike tyson.tyson was a street fighter and still is and has had many a brawl outside the ring.hes a beast and it would take a pro athlete of great skill to do a number on him, also he bites!hes not just gona stand there and box any1.eyes would be gouged, noses would be bit off, etc, hes a maniac an 280-300 pound maniac when hes not boxing.

Guys! Come on , now!

All you need to beat Mike is be a good wrestler.

I think a good wrestler would have a good chance of beating Tyson. I would have never thought a wrestler would beat a top boxer 10 years ago, but I sing a different tune these days. You would have to have a good shot (wrestlers do have the best shot) and have power, (135 pounders need not apply). Of course, if you wrestled and also studied BJJ, you would have a much better chance. If you were also a dangerous striker, you would have an even better chance. I think we're back to this, the more cross training you have, the better chance you have to beat Tyson.

Gary Hughes

this thread sounds like a bunch of HS kids from the kungfu forum, explaining how they'd defeat Kurt Angle and Triple H.

You have to beat Tyson at his own game. Stand and trade with him in MMA.

As painful as it is for me type these words: Your Father is correct.

For the BJJ man, that would be a sound strategy. You have do what you do best and not let Tyson do what he does best.

Gary Hughes

Actually, I don't think Tyson will ever fight MMA. He gets frustrated easy and would probably bite his opponent when he is on the ground. I truly believe that.

gobruins...no one is advocating 100% Kung Fu here. I believe in cross training. I think there are some Kung Fu guys who could beat Tyson. They would have to be from style that put a lot of emphasis on sparring. There are also lots of Kung Fu guys along with guys from a lot of styles, who think they would be Tyson, but would go down the first time he landed a glancing blow.

I have seen fighters taken completely out of their game, because they couldn't handle kicks. I don't say that would be the case with Tyson, because I don't know. I see lots of people dropping their hands when they kick and not having anything ready to follow the kick up. When I kick, I am usually looking for an opening to throw a punch also.

Gary Hughes

For me, if I had to fight Tyson in an MMA fight, I would do some shadow boxing in my corner so that Tyson would think that I was going to trade with him. Then when the ref says fight, I come out and buttscoot before Tyson gets into punching range. Don't know if my strategy would work, but the reason I would do it is because he would KTFO me if I tried to strike with him and he would KTFO me if I went in for a takedown because my takedowns aren't very good, so that's about the only option I would have left.

Crazy Zimmerman makes a good point. I also think Mike would get frustrated easily. If he couldn't hit you or even get a good shot off, it would hurt him mentally.

The wise man wouldn't let Tyson get a chance to bite, because I wouldn't put that past him either.
