What are the requirements at your schools to stripe test? What does stripe testing entail?
youarewhatiswrong - What are the requirements at your schools to stripe test? What does stripe testing entail?Jus performance understanding how fast u learn.. I'm 30 and I've studied video after video before I even started that does help but nothing compares to mat time..
As someone who recently started bjj i have a few stripe questions if you guys wouldn't mind:
1. Is it required at most gyms to get stripes in order to advance to blue (lets get dangerous didn't need them)? I go to a Checkmat gym so not sure if diff gyms have diff procedures.
2. Why are stripes given/what do they signify?
3. How many stripes do you need to get before you move to blue? Or whats the usual number of stripes given before you advance?
4. Are stripes given at all belt levels or only white?
UGCTT_Fillthy - stripes are not required, different gyms have different policies.Well said thank you!!
If you have to think of stripes as something other than a motivational tool for newer grapplers, the best way to think of stripes is as signifying accumulated knowledge. A belt color signifies proficiency at all the knowledge of the lower belt. A 4 stripe white belt can tell you all the details of a particular technique, a no-stripe blue belt is proficient at using those techniques against skillfully resisting opponents.
Usually 4 stripes between belts, but they become less necessary at purple or brown belt. Again, they're generally a motivational tool to help new students who don't feel like they're progress is recognized. As you get further along, you grade yourself against your training partners instead of with stripes.

Yes thank you!!!
I don't think I received stripes at white belt....
Ttt
I received two stripes after about a year, then received a blue belt at just over two years
Got my first 3 stripes after about 2 years, blue belt about a year later. We've got one 4 stripe white that's been training for about 5 years.
stripes are lame
I don't like striped but whatever. I'm not gonna rain on anyone's parade if they like to hand them pit or to those who receive them.
Pit=out

Why don't you like them? Just curious.
