Lol @ backing up a stripe, just sounds funny
ozjiujitsu - I think stripes are important at white. You kinda need that motivation. But by blue belt I think you should be setting your own goals and motivating yourself with training. That's just my opinion.I agree.
liquidrob - Lol @ backing up a stripe, just sounds funnyIt sounds stupid, not funny.
I don't care for stripes but I understand the point behind them. What I hate though is seeing schools making a huge deal and taking photo ops. It's pretty lame seeing the coach pose and take pics with someone who just got their first stripe on their white belt.
I got stripe 1 at the 1 year mark. Then got stripe 2 and 3 three months later. I'm at 15 months.
raleigh -I do now, and agree is sounds pretty stupid and funny, lol. But there is a huge difference in a four strip blue vs a zero strip blue or white belt or whatever. That was my point. I know a guy who trained 10 years before he got blue. Im sure he was proud of every stripe. But he fought MMA so maybe not.Sugarfoot -ocbjjchick -Fuck that, if you've earned stripe, and can back if up, who cares what others think. Talk the talk and walk the waltz.Calibur1980 - I CANNOT take stripe discussions seriously.Note to self: don't brag about stripes.
I just can't.
They are not functional. Meaning, you're still in the same bracket in a tournament. They're usually just given to keep people motivated.
Anytime I hear someone say I'm a 3 stripe whateverwhatever, I tune out. It's like someone asking for extra street cred.
do you hear yourself bro?
The story I heard about the stripes is this.
One day Royce, I think, told everyone to put a black bar at the end of their belt. This was at Gracie Torrance. Then they started putting stripes on the belt. I'll find the story and post it so I don't butcher it.
we don't need to hear your story sugarfoot - i'll tell you how stripes got popular here
Brazzos see another way to milk gringos for money and fund their life plain and simple.
Sugarfoot -There's prolly a reason why there is a black strip at the end of the belt!!raleigh -I do now, and agree is sounds pretty stupid and funny, lol.
