Salvador Sanchez.
44-1-1 with his lone loss being a split decision
charlie burley is the real answer.
Sugar Ray Robinson avoided Dave Sands like the plague so thereâs him too.
I will look him up but, sounds like you know your stuff and have an opinion on this guy, and Iâd be interested in hearing it.
I heard about him as a kid from older guys.
as a fight nut I had to look him up and itâs legit.
Sugar Ray didnât want anything to do with him.
I watch footage of old school nba, and while grainy, I can see they had shitty technique.

Charley burley is a great one!
Joe baksi is very underrated too for a heavier guy!
Nice to know other people known who burley is!

I remember a documentary about Jack Johnson with the same name as thread title.
Thought it was gonna be about him.
Obviously people with interest in boxing have heard of Jack Johnson though.
Harry Greb, Stanley Ketchel & Henry Armstrong
I disagree with the title of the first video. JCC was clearly the greatest fighter from Mexico for several reasons. Take nothing from Sanchez though, he was incredible.
Most boxing afficianados mention Harry Greb. Iâll research the other two more though. Thanks.
You wonât find fight footage of Greb, but he fought at Lea part of his career blind in one eye. On the other hand youâll find footage of Armstrong and Ketchel. Henry Armstrong has the distinction of holding titles at featherweight, lightweight and welterweight simultaneously. This is when boxing had only 8 weight classes and 1 champion per division. Thatâs actually astonishing if you think about it. Boxing was a much, much, much more popular endeavor when he fought.
Also check out Willie Pep if you appreciate defensive wizardry. He famously won a round without throwing a single punch. That was never accomplished before or since. I really enjoyed some of his fights with Sandy Saddler.
It should also be noted that the footage of Robinson that exists is universally considered to be after his prime, which is wild because he was still so damn good.
A few other guys who I donât feel get enough mention
Archie Moore
Ezzard Charles
Joe Walcott
Terry Norris
Donald Curry
Rocky Lockridge
Wilfredo Gomez
Aaron Pryor
Vernon Forrest
Azumah Nelson
Jose Cuevas
Michael Carbajal
Chiquita Gonzales
Johnny Tapia
Danny Romero
Paulie Ayala
Junior Jones
Mark Johnson
Stevie Johnston
Bob Foster
Damn, you guys are making me feel old. Iâm 61 & a lot of the fighters youâve mentioned thus far are contemporaries of mine. I came up through the amateurs with Junior Jones, I was good friends with Ham Johnson so I knew âToo Sharpâ from the time he was a kid & I was a sparring partner of Aaron Pryorâs & fought on the undercard of his fight against Herminio Morales.
Sam Langford
Itâs such a pleasurable surprise to see so many educated old school boxing fans.
I wish I could see more post from you guys.
