didnt chris fight a 16 year old joe stevenson?

Joe was 17 and still a beast that young.  Chris triangled him

Joe was talking made shit before the fight and Chris held that triangle little long. Fights on YouTube.

Chris's son Lucas won his fight last week by UD against a tough opponent.

I'd like to tell you a long story. When I said there are no short cuts, I meant that. There is only hard work. The only way to close a gap is by working harder than the next guy. My kids have done Jiu-Jitsu for 7 years, and Wrestled for close to 5. In that time, they competed against and beat many kids and adults that have been training way longer. 3 and 4 times longer in some cases.

2 years ago the kid Tyler beat yesterday whooped his ass 14-4 in the state finals of Tyler's sophomore year, making him already a 2x champ. He had been wrestling most of his life, and Tyler only 2 years. The following year they both won at different weight classes. This year, they day we were leaving for Houston I posted, "write your own story." I said that because Jonathan Ortegon was about to attempt to be Texas's only 5A 4x state champ, and the skinny kid from Frisco had other plans. I knew in my heart and gut, that the gap had been closed. EVERYONE outside of those who know Tyler thought differently. If there were odds, Tyler was the 1000-1 underdog.

I did my best as a dad/coach/friend, to get in Tyler's head enough where he also believed there was a chance. We (Lucas, Tyler, and I) never go in to a match over confident, or even confident enough sometimes. We don't celebrate big when we win, and we just put our head down and put in the work. Tyler was down 4-1 at one point yesterday, then he turned a corner bringing it to 4-3, and then an escape brought it to 4-4. They ended up in over time where Tyler scored a takedown giving him the win 6-4. I'm not gonna lie, I cried like a baby. I'm the only one that knows every ounce of sweat dropped, because I'm fortunate enough to be at every practice. As ecstatic as I was for Tyler, I instantly felt for the kid he beat. He's a good kid, and imagine the work he put in to get 3 titles, and fall short in overtime going for his 4th.

That being said, for their entire high school career, they wrestle for a couple hours at school, they come straight to the gym and do Jiu-Jitsu, and then as soon as that ends, their wrestling shoes are back on and they are wrestling until 9pm EVERY DAY. When other kids are done and go home, we are working harder and harder to get better and better.

We started driving 40 min away for practice with another stud Parker Decker who beat Tyler, just so they could work together to get better. Parker also won his first state title yesterday to add to a massive list of accomplishments for him and his brother. The boy's wrestle in tournaments all day Saturday's, and they are at wrestling practice at 12:30 on Sunday. I never brag about my kids, because I would never want to put more pressure on them, than they already put on themselves.</p>

I post about them, but we never talk about a win before it's a win, and try and always respect their opponent. This isn't me bragging, this is me saying, if you want the short cut to beat 26 year old men in a cage when you are 17, or win 2 state titles changing a 14-4 loss to a 6-4 win, you bust your ass every day, and you don't make excuses. That is literally the only way. Congratulations Tyler, you are amazing, and congratulations to Lucas and you both for what is just the start of an amazing ride. Next year you will see Tyler wrestling D1, and you'll see Lucas fighting for one of the greatest promotions, right there on your TV screen. Thank you to every single coach that's had a hand in making them better. Coach Pope, I'm glad we chose Frisco High, as I'm sure you are too

;-)

I've reffed both young men multiple times over the years and they are straight up savages on the mat. They also appear to be genuine nice and polite kids who help out their younger teammates at tournaments. Kudos to their Father.

All true.

I often wonder the very few times they lose in wrestling, if it's frustrating knowing if jiu jitsu was allowed how much less competitive the matches would be.

Although I love watching the guys like the Rutolo bros but I truly believe that this style of grappling is better for fighting in or out of the cage.

Oh and props to the Strangler for raising good kids who can scrap.

Triple_B - Not one kimura finish? You have shamed your father!!!!

His dad told a funny story the other day. Started out-

"We're rolling, there's about a minute left, Shit, triangle. It's tight. I move my hips just so I can see the clock and how much time is left-damn, 54 seconds. I try every counter, every time it just gets worse. He's going for a kimura/triangle lock, almost has it, time ends. He gives me a look, "I almost had you".  Not yet young Jedi. Luke,(Lucas) I am still your father".

ha ha ha

Haha!! That's great. I hope the ol strangler is doing great. Sounds like it from that.

He's currently in 4th place.

He's a 2X state champion for Texas.  This year he competed against a guy who not only beat him 2 years prior, but was a returning 3X State champion attempting to be the only 4X, but Tyler had other plans and beat him for the upset.

Vote for him to get him from 4th to 1st.
