The real cause people aren't into the UFC no more.

Caligulus - Events don't have that star pull like they used to

Crocop
Chuck
Tito
Wanderlei
Fedor
Nog
Babalu
Henderson
Rampage

I dunno.. all these guys are BIG NAMES. Like they just have... this... thing.. aura.. they were also built up properly and all have stories. It's so fun.

The Russian Experiment in Fedor
Headkicking Special Forces in Crocop
Wanderlei is just a maniac
Chuck was ice cold.. and KO'd guys

You still get it with some of the guys now.

JDS
Reem (tho hes old school)
Jon Jones (for the most part)
Anderson

But honestly.. a lot of it now is just like.. regular vanilla guys. They can be beautiful and awesome skilled but for some reason things like Brian Ebersole... just.. some guy from Ohio or whatever.. I dunno. Nothing against him he's just an example. It's just not as interesting.. the fights aren't as explosive.

I still love MMA but it's not as exciting as it was a few years back.. and I sort of saw this coming.

What's wrong with fighters from Ohio? I'd say it's one of the top two or three states as far as producing A level fighters. Too many to list... Phone Post

CoolnDeadly - Guilard vs Cerrone a co-main event. Thats why.

Which was a great fight.

Not sure if serious...

Yeah, what a boring fight......wait

LOTS of whiners in here. Phone Post

Still not the level of fight people are used to paying for. Thats a co-headliner on FX type fight. Then the other two "draws" aside from the title fight were Okami and Shields. There isnt many people lining up to watch these two guys fight

Over saturation, one company's monopolization of the sport, aging stars, lackluster roster of current fighters, and extremely poor match making has doomed MMA

LOL @ the shills getting hurt about people's opinions and telling them to leave MMA.TV/stop watching MMA.

Pussy hurt! Phone Post

I don't think the UFC is really losing any fans but I do think it might be losing the "spectacle" aspect as there is an over-saturation of cage fighting in our culture.

If anything, people now view the sport more casually than they did before when MMA exploded in popularity a few years ago; the younger generation now casually watch reruns of UFC unleashed on the TV while they do some mundane task, the same as older generation might casually watch NFL or the NBA

I am a huge fan of UFC/mma...been watching since 01,02. I've seen some of the best fighters on the planet beat the shit out of each other! I will continue to follow mma for a long time...
But, I am in agreement with many of you. I too am sick of the constant events, watered down cards, etc. I believe the current structure is going to cause a lot of fan loss. The hardcore will continue, sure. But UFC is in this for $, and I really think they need to rethink their whole deal right now. And before anybody wants to tell me not to watch, delete my UG account, or whatever...
I'm not downing the sport. I'm downing what I, and many others, see as the downhill spiral of a once phenomenal organization. I use to look forward to every card...it was a big deal! Now I only really care about a couple fights a card. Go back to 1 big ppv card a month. Have a free card that month for new fighters, and maybe a big contender bout. Make the UFC the awesome event it use to be!...

Some fan, the UFC is meh, I'll watch it if bachelor pad isn't on or whatever. But I make sure to clear time to bitch about it on the internets. Phone Post

Zero white American champs. At one point all champs were white and american, that was UFC's peak Phone Post

i think you are on to something here.....

I hope that if the UFC keeps performing worse and worse, that they do a 180 on the rules and introduce Pride rules or something similar.

I also hope they mix it up a bit more. Different commentator teams, different ring card girls, change the production music and such.

I also think the amount of bland guys are very bad for the business. Like somebody said.. You have guys like crocop, the guy who is famous for kick people in the head, and being a Croatian anti-terror policeman. That's quite different from, for example: Nik Lenz, famous for pushing people up against the cage for 15 minutes while the audience contemplate why they even paid for the fucking ticket.

And I love the sport still, some events kicked ass, just UFC 150 was anticipated to be shit, and man, was it shit (except for Guillard - Cerrone ofc!)

Shitty cards

Horrible judging

Oversturation

Main events with no interesting fights. 8 belts and cards with 1 or less title fight.

Boring. The wall and stall, lay and pray didn't happen when I first started watching. Now it seems like half the fights encompass this.

I had about 10 friends that watched. Now maybe 2 do. The rest think its fake because of the shitty judging and the others gay or boring from the stalling. I tend to agree with the former.

Haven't bought a card in almost 2 years now. Phone Post

I agree with boring. I wont buy a PPV event with Jake Shields, John Fitch, or any other lay N rape artists, even if they are on the undercard.

I agree with poor judging, but would like to add that the refs have been a factor as well. There have been a lot of poor stoppages that have ruined many events, and lots of poor decisions that have ruined many events. This is one of the big reasons people stopped watching boxing, because someone is always getting screwed by judges.

Shitty cards is another one. That isn't always the UFC's fault though. Lots of guys keep getting busted with drugs and others keep getting themselves injured. Fighters are always pulling out of fights and we can go for long periods of time without seeing a favorite fighter.

I personally think a fighter can fight every 3 months. I think anyone who has a title should be required to defend it at least 3 times a year. Their value wears off the longer they sit on the shelf. Jon Jones is someone I like to watch because he stays busy.

Anyone else notice that Joe Rogan is slowly starting to turn into a Randy Couture look-a-like?

It's just the evolution of the sport. 8 years ago last night would be a style vs. style matchup: Wrestler vs. the Striker. But what we got was two guys who are so good at everything we just saw a technical sparring match.

It's just not as exciting.

UFC is dying in the states because there are too many hoops to jump through for the casual fanbase to consume the product. most of the free content is on a channel nobody gets... the rest is on friday nights or 4 times a year on fox, and you got ppv... on top of all this you need to subscribe to showtime and shoextreme to watch UFC's sister promotion shitfarce.

The causal fanbase pays the bills... and without it you start pulling SF and elite xc numbers which is what the ufc is now doing on fox.

It's gonna get even worse if they dont eliminate all these hoops... like moving off friday nights... getting fuel into more homes... getting rid of SF and thus showtime and shoextreme.

They need to be on network TV and they need to be there often. The Ultimate Fighter should be rebroadcasted on network TV, even if the UFC has to purchase the time.

The day of MMA characters is gone. No more character devlopment. Its boring, bland, redudant, unevolving and just doesnt seem to go any where anymore. I want to be an MMA fighter myself but i look at how its ran and how little these major league fools pay attention to the fans who make it all possible. Its become an organization ran by a huge ego who does what he wants not what the fans want. His product will die out

I don't even know what this means.

I agree with this for the most part but allot of it has to do with MMA being more balanced now. Fighters have similar toolboxes so for someone to really stand out he needs a special talent. Anderson and Lyoto's front kicks jump to mind, Jon Jones spinning elbows, even Brock Lesnar's brute strength was a drawing factor. Now we have 1 or 2 standouts and a bunch of Nick Lentz clones, who are happy to wrestle you and deliver the occasional stoppage due to GnP landed on the ground of a too tired to fight back opponent

Really? Care to elaborate? I'm pretty white last time I checked and my absolute favorite fighter is Anderson Silva. Also I think GSP is slightly overrated. I will take the Guillard vs Cerrone as the main event though, cards used to be more stacked. That was a great fight though.

Thx Dana McMahon

haha I wonder if one day they'll have a keyfabe love triangle between Arianny, Dana and someone like Chael and they have them all in the Octagon reciting lines before Chael lands the takedown on Dana and Herb, Yves Lavingne and Rosenthal 'try' to break up.
