The True Story of "Ref KO's Cornerman"

oxvaletudo, are you seeking financial compensation as well as pressing charges?

boxy,

you are exactly right. and this dude comes on here and is looking for sympathy? He is either a complete and disallusioned moron or this is a big troll job.

Some very questionable judgment by a lot of people in that clip. I don't see how you can feel justified in hitting him. Issuing a mandate barring him from ringside in the midst of a heated argument doesn't seem very smart. Neither does putting your hands on him as he walks away. I always try to follow the don't touch people rule during any kind of confrontation. I don't see how you possibly thought that decking this guy would help the security situation in the ring. You know a near riot will ensue. Lucky you didn't get killed from that.

albatross - oxvaletudo,

If you were the ref, they you were the one that was wrong from what I saw.

Just watching that video the ref needed his ass kicked. I don't know what was being said, but obviously there was a verbal confortation that is not unusal in a highly emotional combat sport. However, an escalated voice gives someone the right to punch someone else. Moreover, the clip shows the ref as the aggressor. The other guy turned around to walked towards the door of the cage and the ref follows him over there, then it looks like the ref grabs the other guys hand/arm. When the other guy tries to pulls his arm away, the ref clocks him with a cheap shot.

Gotta love it when people give their 2 cents without reading the thread. MORAN

boxy - Just watched it.

The coach and you had words.

He started to walk away.

You restart the conversation after he had turned his back and was walking away.

Conversation resumes.

Then you sucker punched him.

Disgraceful.

Now he sucker punched you back at some other event. I don't have a problem with what he did. He only did to you what you had done to him.

Gotta love people who dont bother to read the thread. Moran.

"the referee in this bout, there was alot of controversy as to whether I was justified in striking Mr Hayes during this incident. I wrote an extensive paragraph, stating that it was unlike me to strike another person outside of a combat sports setting. However, I felt as though I was in a dangerous situation and that he would have struck me if I hadn't acted."

That was what he wrote regarding his actions in the video, which when viewing the video were not substaniated. The rest of the post was about how he then got sucker punched by the guy that he sucker punched.I was commentting on the video of the first sucker punch, since we have no video of the second sucker punch I will reserve comment. Moron.

It needs to be said that if you sucker punch someone, and they catch up with you later, their subsequent attack is not a sucker punch. Unless you are an idiot, you should have known full well that he was going to swing on you. Why else would TS have tried to scurry away when he saw the corner man? Most definitely not a sucker punch.

That was horrible reffing. As someone else has stated, you wouldn't see Herb Dean throwing blows.

Don't be an asshole - Squash the beef and drop the charges. That guy would have been justified in pressing charges on you for what you did first.

tapsnapornap -

in summary, you are a little bitch for suckerpunching this guy and then crying when you got what was coming to you. you are even more of a bitch for getting cops, lawyers, etc. involved. you are an even bigger bitch for coming on to these forums crying and acting like you did nothing wrong at all. basically, you're acting like a little bitch and you are BAD FOR THE SPORT.

OH SNAP

way to drop that fool

Victory Jay -  Video looks like the altercation could have been avoided all together had security not allowed anyone else into the ring in the first place..

so security should keep the cornermen out of the ring? Have you seen a fight before?

Sorry, but I'm still stuck at this little piece of irony... did you really ask Victory Jay if he's seen a fight before?

You should follow that up with the "If you know so much, why don't you run your own show?" argument for a truly epic fail.

He should never ref again, imo. Nice hook though.

Damn, I thought it was Korey not Corey for a 2nd... thread was bout to get a whole lot better.

The ref fucked up in that situation.

Sometimes it is better to just admit the mistake you made, than jumping through mental hoops trying to justify your actions.

After watching it a few times it seems pretty clear you completely overreacted in the first place.

Like I mentioned before, sympathy is not what I want OR need for that matter. Once again, this was posted to be informative. While I have been upset by the situation, I always respect and appreciate the opinions of others. Regardless of what anyone might say, however, I still carry on my business very successfully. I own two academies, one with 150 students+ and a newer one in another town with roughly 40 students. I have promoted 10 sanctioned MMA events in two states(Statelinemma.com or vistit Teamoxendine.com and click the milleneum melee links to view the fights), which I feel were very solid amateur shows with the likes of guys such as Cale Yarborough, Kyle and Bo Baker, Nate Jolly, and Dustin Walden.
I am a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Helio "Soneca" Moriera(Heliosoneca.com) and took alot of lumps from training sessions with Marco Ruas to recieve an RVT purple belt back in 2000. I also head Team Oxendine Mixed Martial Arts Fight Team which boasts a 119-31 record and is home to around 40 active pro and amateur fighters. (http://teamoxendine.com/fighters.htm)
I am not writing this to boast. I do not claim to be the biggest or best, but I have been able to do well and make a living in this sport for more than ten years. I did this through hard work and by always FIRST showing respect to my peers and colleagues. This means everyone from the promoters, fighters, and cornermen to the janitors, house keepers, and hotel clerks. This respect remains until you prove me otherwise.
The fact is that nobody here heard anything that was said, or saw either of our lips as the event unfolded (you can try the same thing attempting to follow the plot of a movie with the volume turned down). It is documented by the promoter and police, that there were several totally separate fights that, all stemming from the Cage Killers Camp. It's a fact that I have been involved at cageside in some capacity, for more than 300 bouts. Regardless of how upset or angry I may have ever gotten, this is the only instance of me ever striking another person while involved in any part of the ringside activity . Perhaps there was a legitimate reason, for me to suddenly react in such an extreme manner, considering I rarely even raise my voice. Regardless this has all been rehashed for the last 2 months. You can continue to do so, but it's not even the situation at hand.
My issue is with those in the sport that attempt to impose their will on others through force and violence. These are usually the guys that that can't keep a team or a gym for very long, because they burn out on the same flame they blazed in on. They find a few guys to work with then attempt to walk over, disrespect, and threaten everyone they come across until they finally get it back in their face.
When we roll into town we do our best. Whether we win or lose, we remain gracious. When the fight is done, we go over, shake our opponent's hand, and thank him and his team for the opportunity to fight. Like with anything, sometimes things get heated. However when you're dealing with professionals, they realize that this is a sport and a business. Simply put, MMA is too aggressive in nature to allow every hothead around every corner to go off on a violent temper tantrum everytime he doesnt like what is said or decision is handed out.
I'm not saying that I was happy with every MMA match I've cornered, but I will say that I've always given the proper respect to the referee and opposing corner. I have never brought my team to an event (at which we sometimes outnumber our opposing teams by more than 10 to 1) and act as a gang looking for a street fight. Finally, I have never taken my entire team to an event, crouched over in a corner, and waited for man and his girlfriend to pass by so I can take a shot at him.
A few of you mentioned that you were offended at the way I spoke of fearing for my safety in one sentence and being brazen in the way spoke about taking the suckerpunch in the other. Everything I said is true. I WAS in fear for my safety, and reacted the way a trained fighter reacts to another trained fighter approached in that manner. When it comes to the the punch I took last night, my words were brazen because he couldn't do what he came to do. He came there with full intentions to make a bad situation, even worse. He could have taken the two months since the youtube incident and used it make his team better or help promote the market in his hometown. Instead, he was consumed with revenge, and nothing slightly resembling a sport. His goal, in all it's malice, was to sneak up behind me and knock me unconscious. That night he couldn't do it, so I'm sorry you're offended that this makes me smile. Trust me, that is the only thing about this situation that I'm smiling over.
Anyway, for those of you that wanna post on this topic, then please do so. A few of you remarked that it is a stupid thread and a waste of your time, so don't read it. It was an important matter to me, so I posted it. Sorry it wasnt another UFC thread or gear advertisement, but this is all I have for now.

Power Clean - paragraphs motherfucker do you use them

Capital letters and punctuations- motherfucker, do YOU use them?

Casey,

First of all, that was the best KO by a referee since Buster Douglas laid out the Macho King back in 1990.

Secondly, I was sucker punched and attacked from behind by a lineman from my high school football team the day after I mounted him and headbutted his face until he was KO'd in front of half the student body. So I know how it is and it sucks. It especially sucked that the second go-round was stopped by others before I (and you) could finish matters. It's been 20 years and I'm still pissed about it. However, you have video scoreboard on this guy and that is something that is gonna last.

Last but not least, my Bas Rutten Lethal Streetfighting video taught me a valuable lesson that you could learn from as well. Keep you eyes on your opponent. NEVER look away from your opponent, because if you do, you cannot see the glass coming at you, or the hit, or the shin kick to the head. If you see what is coming at least you can go with the hit. That is very important. And don't even get me started about that knife he could have been carrying in his other hand the whole time...

you sucker punched a guy, and knocked him out.

You could have seriously injured him, as in life long injury.

I honestly think you are full of bullshit with your version of events.

YOU followed him. He was walking toward the exit, and you pursued the confrontation. You put your hands on him, and when he tried pull himself away from you, you sucker punched him. You hit him when his hands were at his sides. He was not in your face, invading your space, and you punched him.

all those things you posted about yourself are nice. I'm glad you have a successful business, that you've reffed many events and never ever had a problem before. Good on you mate.

It doesn't change the fact that you royally fucked up and assaulted that guy.

People make mistakes. You would come off better, then and now, by being honest about it and stepping up and trying to make things right.
