The first “loss” in Russia was supposed to be a draw but the organization decided after the third round to take a point away from him for something he did early in the fight. They only did it because they wanted a definitive winner and loser. So dumb
Watching live, I had Sterling 1-2-3, but honestly, that first round was so close, I can’t argue with people that had it for Yan.
I was borderline 10-8 in R2 for Sterling, but I stuck with 10-9 and ended up with 48-47 Sterling.
It’s crazy, because 2 through 5 were all so clear that it really does come down to R1, which was largely a feeling-out round. Crazy that would be the difference. Not a ton to score.
I had every round 10-9 because there was never any true damage in the fight and neither fighter was ever in any danger at all
I have Yan the first round both times I watched it due to him landing the better, cleaner and harder strikes even if sterling barely edged him out in terms of quantity
I was legit torn on the live score. So little between them. Sure it would be a rematch if they didn’t have the history already, but seems like Dana is ready to move on for now, which makes sense given how many really talented contenders there are at 135 right now. Fights just don’t get any damn closer.
Also, it never helps for people’s perceptions when the person that loses wins the final two rounds.
Their job legit sucks. The more I’ve got to know many of them, the more I see how much a lot of these judges really do care and really do try and do their best – study, talk it out, review, get better. Not saying every one of them is like that, but you’d be surprised how much they really do care. But end of day, it’s a thankless job that gets you nothing when you get it right and an absolute shitstorm when you get it wrong.
I gave Aljo rd 1. I didnt even really think it was that close. He landed more and cleaner shots. Moving forward means nothing when the otger guy is landing better.
