What Shen said. Those kenpo belts are so different though from a bjj/gjj belt though that its not even worth bringing up to be honest. So again they aren't confusing a damn thing, they are blatantly putting on those belts for marketing and because they can justify in their minds that a belt is a belt when in reality it isn't.
Hunter V -circusmonkey - Any instances of BJJ black belts wearing their belts whilst in a TMA Gi? Doesn't seem to be a problem disciplines outside of BJJ have to deal with.
You won't find it. Mainly as the whole TMA world knows the branding power of a bjj black belt. It has the mystique of people putting in hard work and sacrifice for 10yrs or more. Hell I have friends in TMAs who are a bit in awe of that since I am a brown and getting close. People know its a great marketing brand so if they can sneak it in they will. For bjj there is no grand money making to wear the bjj belt while say doing karate or something, so you won't see people trying to pull that shit off.
Oh definitely...know. I was being really gentle in posing a question of what I already know the answer to be, just to be nice.
ahhh
We're supposed to take a stand against this bullshit. Bjj'ers used to be the guys who would dojo storm over these issues. How can anyone who respects the art stay a student of them?

checkuroil -I guess... but they are black belts.Root12 - We're supposed to take a stand against this bullshit. Bjj'ers used to be the guys who would dojo storm over these issues. FWIW...
I heard about these girls a couple months back from that thread on the teenager who opened his own GJJ school. They were discussed on that thread as well. Nothing came of it. Other forum members obviously knew about them long before that.
So, serious question: what kind of oversight is that where a bunch of random dudes on a BJJ website know more about what is happening at your own affiliate than you do...? Are they THAT uninvolved?
I mean, one can claim "high standards" and that you are highly involved with your affilates, pure water etc. OR you can claim you are kinda out of the loop and didn't really know what's going on locally with your affiliates, but you really can't claim both.
Does anybody know if that place have other instructors?....how can 15y.o. get bluebelt and who teaches the master cycle classes?
And reading Rener's FB post just screams booolshiet my fren.....unnastan?
There is no reason for those girls to even OWN a belt like that, ,much less wear it while wearing a Gracie Academy gi.
I find it funny that the dude got slapped down quick as a fraud but the GA is defending the girls. The only difference is the girls are an official CTC and pay money. The GA is losing credibility with this one. They could have quiety made a phone call and put a stop to that, and then issued a statement about it.
By defending them, they are just giving this issue legs..
No big deal, probably just "technical" black belts
win ^
Ari pulled the same stunt. It ended up hurting our credibility tremendously by keeping him around after that. And, it turns out that such behavior was indicative of other larger issues.
Why is Rener so short sighted about this. Expel them now and save your brand
These tma kooks only want to exploit bjj. They don't actually care about it. If they did, they would find a gym to train at. Instead they decide to instruct on day one after online certification.
The problem is it's so hard for some people to relinquish their black belt status in one art and acknowledge to the outside world that they are white belts in something else. Some people can do this (e.g., the All American Wrestler who puts on a white belt and lines up with the other white belts), but countless others can't or don't want to.

from the facebook post;
"Peter Frawley- My son and I have trained at this dojo for 6 years. Emma and Maycee rightfully earned their blacks belts under a newly formed and accredited martial art under grand master sensei Seth Sykes. A black belt with a red stripe is also a notation of being an instructor for which both girls have been for years.
For kenpo/jiu jitsu class, black belts are worn. For gracie jiu jitsu, blue belts are worn."

im guessing this freak gave them the belts in question and there are a couple dozen kids that decided to stay with the kenpo school once the girls took over.
simple answer is switch to regular black belts but they realy shouldnt be wearing those either if this guy made his shit up? messed up situation.

It just shows then that they were full of shit before, during, and after getting their black belts. Hell I have 5 black belts in different arts and had no problem putting a white belt on again EACH time.
I have the great honor of having trained kenpo for many many years of my life as well. The belts they were wearing were not kenpo related.
The stripes are sewn into the belt for Kenpo. They're not placed over the red bar. The red bar is the indication of the 5th° and they are too young to be a 5th°. Then to put tape over the 5th° would make no sense.
Obvious fraud trying to masquerade as honest mistake. This is how they always go about doing it. They start to play the ignorance and confusion card.
I hate to go even further but turning the belt knot to the center, instead of over the hip is how most kenpo indicates instruction
I understand that many forms of karate change their gi rules but I doubt that is case here
