Thousands of angry Russians fight on the beach....

Street Beefs imo.

Just don't get sand to the eye ala Chong Li #chalkgate Bloodsport style.

I doubt you've had serious training fighting blind like JCVD did!

ttt for a thailand update,

post your weightloss stats there too Sean.

Update - This is apparently becoming a regular event, and they're going again this Friday. One of my students is indeed a crazy Russian, and we're bringing him down there. I'll be cornering him (assuming we get a decent match up, they do matchmaking on scene as people show up). I'll keep you guys posted, and might have some new video come Friday.

Weight loss stats - From about 350 to 330 since I got here.

So how much baht do they get if they win? What about the loser, I’m assuming they still get paid something even if they lose.

Id love to see pure Thai boxers taking part. That Russian guy in the last video looked to be getting on his way to a bad beating standing up but was lucky the Thai didn’t have any takedown defence.

Whereabouts in Phuket do you train Sean?

RenatoCocopreta - Im developing a major mancrush on Gannon. Still soft as cotton so no homo so far.

Don't worry, it's not gay as long as you don't make eye contact.

Im totally safe then Sean, like Aussie Shaun Im not man enough to go eyeball to eyeball with you.

I'm at Maximum MMA, it's one of the smaller camps, but it's got some really slick thai coaches (including 2 former Lumpinee Champions), a very good jiuitsu/MMA coach, a full modern weight room and gym attached, and it's right off Patong beach. The place has a really unique international vibe. For reasons of demographics, there is usually only one person from each country in the MMA program. The coach (a big Swede named Svennson) doesn't bother to learn your name, so it's "Switzerland get over there, France get over there." "Today it's Russia and Germany sparring. You're old friends, I'm sure it will go great.". When we do drills, he tells me "You've got to defend America! Can you you defend America?". Really gets your blood pumping. It's where martial artists go to vacation, so you never know WHO is going to walk through that door, crazy tough Eastern European guys from sketchy security companies, really elite guys from other camps etc. etc. anyone can walk through that door at any time. You'll get a message from the coach "Don't drink too much tonight, you've got to defend America against an 80 kilo ADCC champ tomorrow.". This week a crazy tough Finnish guy with some real skills joined. We told him about the fights tomorrow. He said "I'm on vacation, and I haven't fought in 10 years...but it's the Russians, it's Winter and I'm a Finn, so of course I'll be fighting.". So now we've got two. I'll keep you posted.

so are you in thailand on the spurious gofundme takings that you begged for on here from the marks?

i hope you get your pig lights punched out.

First time I've heard a man criticized for looking for work. Not sure how familiar you are with Phuket, but it's got an entire cottage industry built around MMA. If my other career does end up being over, it's pretty much my only marketable skill.

Mature response to ridiculously aggressive attack.

We've all had days....

And he probably missed the UG News article where I actually did land a job out here - http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/news/sean-gannon-resurfaces-at-alex-garcia-training-camp-in-thailand

Just one day a week at one of the smaller camps, but it shows that opportunities are out there if you work for them. I'm going to keep working and keep looking so that even if my other career is over, things are still going to work out.

Gannon

Is your BPD deal in court system?

Update, great night of fights at Strelka, and one of my fighters actually fought Drunk Boxer too. I'll link the fights as soon as Strelka puts them up, and tell the stories around them. They also made me a kind of honorary MC of the event given my history as a famous youtube fighter, which was really cool (youtube views are their primary revenue stream, so keep clicking).

good scrap

your guy was throwing some good punches from top. suprised they did not have more affect.

Anyone that doesn't respect Gannon and what he did for Caucasian men around the world, when Kimbo was cucking everyone left and right, deserves to be Blacked. Do your thing man! Enjoy that yellow fever, I'm terminally ill with it.

The Russian was an experienced pro with 50 fights, and was actually doing a decent job blocking a lot of them. In his first fight that day (this was his second) my fighter delivered a brutal Ground and Pound that stopped the fight within a minute of them hitting the sand. And the punches on the Russian did have a big effect - they caused the Russian referee to give him a (possibly illegal) stand up from a position he was clearly losing from. The tide of the fight changed after the stand up. My fighter took this fight on 18 hours notice, hadn’t fought in 10 years, and was on vacation, against a seasoned current active pro. After the stand up, he lacked the stamina to finish the takedown the way he did at the beginning, and things slowly started to turn in favor of the Russian (who finished with an absolutely perfect triangle). Great fight regardless. And ironically, the Finnish fighter loses Winter War to Russia…due to intense heat. I can’t describe the Thai heat and the Thai sun out there, it’s not like fighting in some air conditioned casino, it sucks the strength right of of you.

Fortunately, Finland and Russia are close by, the fighters are going to try to set up an official rematch. I’ll keep you guys posted.

Here is my Finnish fighter. He’s a (very legit) BJJ blackbelt BTW, a (big) cut above the guys usually in these events. He won his first fight quickly, so we decided to give the people what they wanted and fight the scary Russian nobody wanted to fight. Great fight.

btw you look like a proper Russian with that moustache Sean haha

TTT

Fucking great thread. Was coool to see you there, Big man.  Awesome scrap.

They sould cross promote with Rough n' Rowdy. Rednecks vs Russians, who wouldn't watch?

i cant see the sand thing lasting

you guys need a proper outside ring

shouldnt be too hard to find one in thailand

I think it was the theme of the event - Battle at the Beach (when Russians think Phuket, they think beach vacation) but they couldn’t get the permits to actually do it on a popular part of the beach, so they improvised. It’s actually right outside one of the outdoor Muay Thai stadiums you describe (Chok Chai Stadium).

At the original Kimbo fight, my friend Matt Santos was so proud that he’d been able to acquire and construct a full ring for the event. I told him - “Take it down, these events are supposed to look as ghetto as possible, if we’re just another pair of guys in a ring nobody will watch.”. It’s important to do SOMETHING to distinguish your event from all those cookie cutter competitors all over the world.

And I don’t mind, it’s an advantage to me because I’m the only coach that makes his fighters practice on the sand “If you can’t do it on the sand, you can’t do it in your fight”. Our opponents are all stuck fighting on the sand for the first time, and it makes them hesitate.
