Tonight is the biggest "FAIL" for boxing

I keep telling my newfound boxing-fan buddies that your typical Mayweather fight isn't something that'll keep you on the edge of your seat. I think millions around the world are going to walk away from this fight with a very "meh" feeling.
Yep, there is a good chance Mayweather cruises and most casual fans will be disappointed. Phone Post 3.0

I think it is hilarious that people keep saying this. Pacman is going to fuck him up. He is the absolute worst match up for Floyd. He is gonna chase him around, put him on the ropes, and drop 10 pieces on him all night long. Peekaboo shoulder role bullshit does not work past a 4 piece in most cases, that means Floyd is getting hit hundreds of times tonight, and ultimately knocked the fuck out.
Pac hasn't had a KO in about 5 years.. And he is gonna break that against possibly the best defensive boxer of all time? Phone Post 3.0

Because... Don't really care. i'm heading over to friend's house right before the main event. Not trying to watch all that other matches. This is like boxing's final bang. (Possibly a rematch) but what other boxers that are coming up look so promising to pull this type of draw? Phone Post 3.0

Probably not KO him but I think he'll put a lot of pressure on him and get through the defense more than you think. Here's a nice quote from Pac "How can you win a fight when all you're doing is defending".

buddie - Don't believe the hype. This fight isn't close to the biggest ever.

Oh really? Please, tell us what fight is bigger than this?

Joe Louis vs Max Schmelling II and it's not close. Also Ali vs Frazier I. 2 undefeated HWs in their prime, both with a legit stake as being the HW champ before the bell rang.

Hey and while I'm at it, I'd also say that Leonard vs Duran I & II and Leonard vs Hearns I were both bigger than this. Mayweather and Pacquiao are both considered to be past their prime and a it's too one sided (in most people's minds). No one knew going into the above fights who would win and the guys were in their primes and were all known for big fight performances.

Rubes and suckers make up 99% of people purchasing this PPV. Or is that 100%? Hrm... Phone Post 3.0

Hagler vs. Leonard was bigger than this.

No doubt that this fight will generate more revenue and ppv buys than any sort of UFC combination you can think of. But can you say that this fight card, minus all the media driven hype, is more entertaining than say UFC 100 or any Pride event? Phone Post 3.0

Thingading - I wonder if deep down that boxing insiders know the sport is dying and there are many more younger fans of MMA than boxing. So, they are trying for one last huge pay day based on the only two boxers anyone who doesn't closely follow boxing really cares about. They know this isn't going to "jump start" the sport, so just cash in on May/Pac.

Maybe they'll try for a rematch or best case rubber match down the road, but I'm thinking they know this could be the last hurrah, so they're just trying to make as much money on this one event.
You do realize that boxing ratings are doing just as good or better than the average UFC event, right? And that boxing is back on regular TV (NBC, CBS, etc)?

The amount sour grapes from MMA fans has quadrupled as we've gotten closer to Mayweather/Pacquiao. Probably because for years, the could say "Lol boxing can't even have the top 2 guys fight each other! In the UFC, the best fight the best EVERYTIME". So now that it's actually happening, those fans go back to the "Boxing is dying" rhetoric, when the ratings show that's anything but true.

I always wonder if these types of MMA fans are as vitrolic to kickboxing or other combat sports. Phone Post 3.0

A 10 or 12 round boxing war is more entertaining than anything MMA will ever have to offer. Boxing isn't really about stacked cards. Just one great fight can be all the entertainment you need.

Though the chances of a war happening tonight are fairly minimal unfortunately. Pacquiao has it in him to fight toe to toe, but I don't think Floyd does. But since he's slowed down a bit, he may not have a choice but to fight Pacquiao. And that unknown is what makes it exciting.

Been hearing that this is boxing last hurrah for at least 10 years now. MMA fans are the most insecure of any sport.

Pac v May fight is only the fight of the Century for average watchers of sport.

Who knows who will be the next big PPV Boxing Star but there will be one for sure just like there will be another UFC Promotion.

MMA and Boxing will both survive, sometimes numbers will be up for Boxing and then they may dip and UFC numbers will rise.

Its all a cycle and people like us can enjoy both or only watch one sport if we choose but the choice is ours more so than ever.

Good times.

Mayweather may out box Pacman and make this fight a stinker and it is possible many may lose interest in the sport for a while but with manny wearing Cleto's I hope he he sits may on his butt.

With Refree Bayliss its gunna be harder for Pacman to do it tho.

Big last boxing event for a while.
The sport, which ain't what it used to be especially in the States, needs more than one big fight.
The industry knows this, that's why Hayman is trying to get on TV again. What's telling though, is that the sport has had to PAY to be on TV.
UFC is in a good position - more popular among the young US demographic and bringing in revenue from a TV deal and has been making more deals internationally - Mexico and Latin America, Germany, China, etc. It has also come out with the digital platform, FightPass.

This is not to say boxing can't get back to where it used to be.

First off, I'm shelling out my 100 bones to watch the fight, so relax. One can be a fan of both MMA and boxing, it's not illegal.

Second, the UFC, which holds so many events, has been around for only a little over 20 years (the first almost 10 years without even knowing what to do until Zuffa purchased it). The fact, as you say, an average UFC event is doing just as good as boxing, which is a much more established sport that has been around for 100+ years, says a lot. And the UFC is on regular TV, too (Fox).

Fight fans should want to see this. Why all the cunting? Phone Post 3.0

There is no other real names on the card because they don't need to because no one cares. This fight alone is enough to make people pay $99.95 for 3 fights on main event and still set viewership records. And many of the people paying that money were complaining about a 5 fight ufc card going up to $59.95. Enough said. Phone Post 3.0

So why are you on a mma site if a one dimensional sport like boxing is what you like and mma is so boring.

Don't get me wrong, I like boxing or at least I used to but MMA is as close to a real fight as you can get in sports. Boxing is like chess and MMA is like chess with 5x as many pieces.

By to each their own. Carry on Phone Post 3.0

Liston vs Ali was a hugh fight. As mentioned Leonard and Duran were just as anticipated. This is the biggest fight in years but most don't envision a great fight or great fighting skills [Pac has declined and Floyd stays in safemode too much].

Who thought this was more entertaining than an mma fight? Machida vs rockhold on Fox was way more entertaining and free vs this $100 turd.... Phone Post 3.0
