Torres takes responsibily for twitter firing

stevekt - Instead of telling him he's been "fired" they should just tell him he's been put on "permanent vacation". Everyone loves vacation.

Damn, I just snorted my drink out of my nose. DFW, hire this man to coach fighters on how to properly make cracks on the interwebz. Save you headaches down the line!

But also, calm down and rationally look at this guy's fuck up and give him a chance to make it right. I think the point has been made and lay out exactly what will happen to fighters who cross the lines of good taste in a public manner in the future instead of burning one guy at the stake to make the point. Don't arbitrarily bring the hammer down and make everyone walk on egg shells , but lay down some pretty basic standards from here on out and make the consequences pretty point black and clear.

sgotwalks - Why have they not drawn up an official UFC Constitution

Because there is no consistancy in the promotion. One guy can do something and if another guy does the same thing then the outcome is different. If there was a constitution then it would force them to treat all fighters equally.

Exactly, and it is what will forever keep this organization from attaining the same level of respect as the other major sports organizations. It's unfortunate, but it is also ridiculous and inexplicable. I want Cindy O ro respond to to my constitution post on page 2 rather than posts about who called which reporter a cunt. Why not a code of conduct which applies to all with consistent punishments to all who offend? Enough is enough when it comes to Dana acting impulsively and with no consistency when real people (fighters) livelihoods are at stake.
and this how unions begin, but really most employers have some type of conduct clause. i feel that he will back before Daley with his conduct afterwards.

for the all the "he doesn't need to apologize, he did nothing wrong". if your a public face representing a company this stuff does not fly. leave comedy to the professionals

So let me understand this correctly. Dana doesn't find this sort of humor funny but it airs on the FX network which is fox owned. Sounds like Dana needs to watch what he says as well.

Fillthy - Sometimes rape jokes are funny: What's the best part about taking a shower with a 10 year old girl? You can slick her hair back and pretend she's a 10 year old boy.
As I don't have children, it's funny. My brother has a litter of girls, so to him it's not funny. He didn't even smile a little bit.

The meaningful question is - would I get fired at work for telling it? Yes. Is it fair that the dudes that are bromancing the boss get to tell jokes that would get you fired? No. UFC was probably looking for a reason to cut Torres because TUF has given them stacked divisions of low cost talent, and they're not going to overpay MT to can-crush. I hope Miguel is back, soon, but when he returns it'll be for a contract much for favorable to UFC and their divisions.

Well said.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Dana say he was going to offer a reward for the most outlandish twitter comment at the end of the year? Phone Post

Always liked him, pity how his UFC career ended.

This has got to be a ploy designed to get the public to pay more attention to the lighter weight classes. If they bring Miguel back in less than 6 months and he never fights in a rival org during that time period, I’ll be convinced.
If it isn’t, Lorenzo needs to curb the Shmoo and get him off the cocaine.

Right around 4:32 is where it starts.

My thoughts:

Dana has said some dumb, regrettable stuff. We ALL do. I know the Pope has said some stuff he regrets. That is human nature.

I can't help but think of the whole "Those in glass houses should not throw stones" proverb in this situation.

Given the example above, Dana used a derogatory remark that started a firestorm in the media. Did he regret it? Yes. Did he apologize? Yes. (However, not to Loretta)

I agree there needs to be some consitency. Lots of fan were left shaking there heads with this one, including me.

Not sure you know what you're talking about because he didn't call her a C in the link you provided. Did you posted the wrong one? If so, my apologies when you post the correct one.

Cindy

Dana says (about UFC fighters) "We're dealing with smart guys." Correct, Dana, you are dealing with smart guys. The fighters, however, are not. The fighters are dealing with Dana, who is not a smart guy. He is a boxercise instructor who went to high school with two billionaires and knows how to kiss ass. And expects his fighters to know how to kiss ass as well as he had to.

Cindy

Not sure if that was the outburst that was referenced for the C*** comment in the original post...I was posting the link since that was the only outburst that I recall of Dana vs an MMA journalist. He may not have used that exact expression, but that was the worst that I was aware of when he called someone a F*got and the resulting media storm. But my point in posting the link was more to point out that we all have moments when we say something that is regrettable. But looking at how it's posted that isn't not clear since I failed to include the offending remark I was referring to. My apologies.

Given all that Dana has done to boost the reputation of the UFC as a brand, I applaud some efforts, but do question others. This isn't meant to be a beat Dana down moment...I respect the man seeing all the good he has done on this forum alone. This is just constructive criticism from someone who has watched the sport evolve over the last 12 years and has a vested interest in seeing it succeed. I respect a lot of what he has done, but much like any successful business that grows into a large corporation there will be growing pains. Having some consistency or protocol in situations like this would help with the cries of favoritism from the peanut gallery.

Cutting someone from the UFC doesn't just cut off the primary stream of income for a fighter, it may also impact future employment. I have seen friends wreck their bodies with no insurance (pre-UFC insurance days) and still continue to fight because that is what they do and it's the only means they have to support themselves. I would hope that a 1st time offender with a family to support would be given another chance to make right. Just as Dana made amends for the F
**** comment in the link to those who he offended, I hope he offers the same courtesy to Torres.

... is Dana not giving out $5k a month to the fighters with the most views, most new Followers on Twitter.

Would this not be a good stunt?? He is just playing the game the same way Chael is playing it...??
