What do you guys take for sore joints?

Been focusing on BJJ and grappling a lot in the gi, but I just turned 40 and it’s taking a toll on my joints. What are you guys doing to prevent joint pain and also treat it? Govt employee so weed is out for me. I can’t take most pain meds cuz of my job but I’m open to suggestions.

Collagen supplements. Costco sells them for relatively cheap.

Cold shower in the morning. Glucosamine chondriton, turmeric, hot shower then tiger balm on target before bed. Incrediwear compression sleeves are nice too, especially their knee sleeve. Stretch before and after bed, even just basics for 5 minutes.

Any other advice is woo.

Cannadips is cbd that I sue for aches and pains.

I don’t take anything specific.

What I found works best is clean diet, stretching (underrated), and proper rest. Supplements can’t make up for lacking in any of those three.

hanging from a monkey bar or chin up bar is huge for me and then an inversion table. Other than that CBD and whiskey for when I’m sore to sleep better.

I did try CBD for around 6 months and found all it did was make me relaxed/sleepy.

Ibuprofen if I’m hurting when I wake up. Coffee to get me to practice. There’s no preventing or treating joint pain. I think we just feel more defeated and discouraged by it the older we get. I started BJJ again after a long layoff just recently and it cracks my whole back like the chiropractor would. I feel a lot better afterwards. But I do prefer to Ibuprofen and coffee to right now get myself feeling like I’m ready to go grapple.

There are some thoughtful suggestions on this thread. I think as you get older, it’s important to balance your combat sports training with weight lifting. It helps prevent injuries. Swimming is another really helpful activity.

Foam rolling and stretching after workouts is really important. As I get older, I’ve found that this has “kept me young.”

anti-inflammatory diets help, too. Mostly plants; omega threes; etc.

I have a Theragun and that’s been a bit of a gamechanger. Obviously it’s not a replacement for a proper massage, but it’s very helpful if that’s not an option.

i think rolling on a lacrosse ball or softball is the move over a theragun or foam rolling…it hurts 10x worse but it’s way more effective

I’m not sure about more effective, but both are certainly similar. The difference for me is I can reach places with my Theragun I can’t easily or at all with a ball. It’s also more convenient. Lastly, I don’t think a ball will effect as much blood flow as percussive massage will, which is a big factor in recovery.

If on the cheap, a ball is certainly better than nothing.

I think it’s pretty good. Gets you numbed enough to accept some big hairy man cracking the shit out of your back for free.

I’ve used some CBD roll on stuff in the past and I don’t know if it was placebo or not but it felt like it helped. Not a cure or anything but eased it a bit. I just use it every once in a while when pain gets really bad. It’s worth trying out if you are in pain as extra medicine but I wouldn’t expect too too much just a little help.

yeah just real real bad for your gut biome and body long term. I’m a fuckin idiot trying to translate what one of my phd friends relayed to me but essentially your body creates more inflammation from the anti inflammatory properties from ibuprofen over time or some shit like that.

you’re right about that. I forgot to mention using tens units for the sore area too. Kinda works like a theragun by wearing out that muscle and getting more blood flowing in there
