Why elbows but not headbutts?

Wouldn't help the 'mainstream' ideal that Zuffa are pursuing.

The media would have a field day if they introduced nutting people. Phone Post

Masakyst - yeah and while wer're at it, why not biting? People bite in a real life fight. Like for example, a fighter would no longer be able to cross their leg over their opponents face when trying to secure an armbar, or else they risk losing a chunk of flesh. Current rules are biased in favor of non-biters IMO.
Just imagine the damage Ronda Rousey would do to someone's arm if they tried to bite her leg. <img src="/images/phone/apple.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>

how bout just a gentle nibbling?

This, he'd put Jon Jones in the hospital if he could headbutt. Phone Post

Headbutts are illegal because they are seen as a "dirty" fighting move. They were made illegal for the same reason ground stomps and 12-6 elbows were made illegal. Its viewed in the West(and especially the western media) as barbaric and dirty. People would rather have the illiusion of safety.

Also, if you look back at when they were allowed, they weren't a fight stopper like elbows are. They were probably better at set us and opening up a guy's defense.

Pretty much this.

Headbutts to the body should be legal though. ...but you can still get away with one, if its only one.
