Why the hate for the Strikeforce HWY tourney?

sodagoespop - Its too bad he got tapped by a UFC washout in a minute and hasn't thought anyone of note in 5 years. He was a top fighter years ago but not now hommie.

is "UFC washout" the official term they tell you to use when referring to Werdum in the memo they sent out or do you actually believe that he is no longer in the UFC because he wasn't good enough to compete in their HW division?

Oddessa -

I do hope the tourney is a huge success. I'm excited because the wagering opportunities and volume will be huge..

Good because NFL has not been so good for us this season :-(

For all the 10ers out there saying Werdum is a "washout" ;)

"When I first heard the rumors, I didn't know anything," Werdum told Tatame.com. "I had four more fights left with [the UFC] on my contract, which ran to 2010. But they demanded to renegotiate my existing contract by cutting my pay in half."

And if Werdum is a washout for losing to Arlovski and JDS then why is Roy Nelson in the UFC?

This is a better HW tourney than what the UFC could put on. It's gonna be awesome. Phone Post

Every MMA fan should be exited for a tournament.

Exodus - I'm fucking stoked for this tourney but josh gross's statement claiming the winner would be the 1# HW is ridiculous... It's like saying that the champions of the CFL are the best football team in the world it's stupid they play in Canada cause they couldn't get into the big leagues. Whether they were scared like Fedor, couldn't cut it like Werdum, or they are just 1 dimensional like Reem it doesn't make much of a difference <img src="/images/phone/post_tag.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>

Nothing like another guy who's probably never been in the ring or cage calling a guy who's actually fought a coward. Yes, Fedor has shown time and time again that he falls apart when hit, and is almost paralyzed with fear at the thought of someone hurting him ... unlike the tougher souls who risk bed soars by bravely watching on PPV.

You can argue that Fedor is past his prime (even his boxing coach has said that), semi-retired, and no longer the best heavyweight. But to call him (or anyone who actually gets in there and fights) a coward is simply stupid. If nothing else, he's shown an amazing ability to continue fighting despite being hit hard enough to do the fish dance (Fujita), or slammed in a way that would probably have hospitalized you (Randleman). Don't project your own fears of pain onto guys who actually fight, it just makes you sound stupid.
