Why else wouldn't the UFC have female fights? It's definitely not due to
popularity. An all female TUF would pull in ratings. So does the UFC
think women fighting would be more of a circus show?
women fighting is not appealing to a main stream audience. even women's boxing doesn't get a lot of attention. It is do to socialization factors that women fighting doesn't appeal to a mainstream audience
ooooo one beat you didn't she.
groans
wow the moron factor is strong here today
"
Women should be barefoot, pregnant and making my supper!"
Women should be bare, on the pill, and making love
You should have heard Frank Trigg on sirius fight club, he was trashing some new lady cage fighting called gladiator girls. he was on fire. also says he'd have no problem knocking out a chick, as long as she can fight
"TUF should be co-ed. 8 men. 8 women. 1 male winner. 1 female winner.
It would add an entirely new dimension to the show."
For sure, never had drunken hot tub sex scenes on a TUF before.....YET.
"You should have heard Frank Trigg on sirius fight club, he was trashing some new lady cage fighting called gladiator girls. he was on fire. also says he'd have no problem knocking out a chick, as long as she can fight"
I haven't heard anything about this gladiator girls organization, but the rest of that blurb is incredibly lacking in sexism. Go Trigg!
And thanks dipsheet

And as long as she doesn't know the rear naked choke.
....I'm sorry I couldn't help it. :)

Let me say, I'm a fan of women's mixed martial arts, and I would be happy if the UFC adopted women's bouts either as part of their regular events or decuded to put on all female events. That said, how do you figure it's not a matter of popularity? Women's sports make a whole lot less money than men's, and they are not as popular (with certain exceptions, I'm sure). The same undoubtedly applies to women's mixed martial arts, it's much less popular than men's. Hell, look at the comments in this thread: mma.tv is a website frequented exclusively by fans of the sport and even amongst them you've got a healthy percentage that wants nothing to do with women's MMA except as an opportunity for misogyny.
Put them on TUF and it might draw some extra ratings, although I'm not convinced that it would even accomplish that, but on Pay Per Views, regular cards, the stuff that really makes the UFC money, it wouldn't make the UFC extra money at all. In fact it is likely perceived by the UFC management, rightly or wrongly, as something that would be far more likely to turn away potential consumers than to bring them in. If a female TUF season did bring better ratings, I dare say that it would only be for the sake of novelty, and trying to pursue that angle would be treating the women's sport as a sideshow when it deserves better than that.
Plus Dana White says women shouldn't fight because they're pretty. Take it for what you will.

I agree in certain respects- You don't see mixed gender events in mlb, soccer (a sport where in the US, the women's team is far more popular mainstream than the men), nba or any other competitive sports. Women's fights for the most part should take place on women's cards. The only thing I do dislike is that when promoters do add a female fight to the card, they tend to only add one. This makes it look like more of a novelty-
Nobody is stopping women from fighting, there simply isn't much demand for it. You can complain all you want, nothing is going to change.
The truth of the matter is that most people have no interest in it and that goes for a lot of male fighters as well.
Theres no cultural interest for it in America and especially not from BJJ guys out of Brazil. And in sports demand is really the biggest driving factor for things. Theres still some people who only care about HW and 205 because they want to see the biggest larger than life figures.
I just dont think women's fighting will ever be a money event. Women's basketball isnt. Women's boxing isnt. You really cant force people to pay to watch something they dont want to see.
There is no demand for it yet because many fans haven't seen it... or haven't been privy to a good technical fight between two high level female competitors before. If you're a true fan of the sport, then you can appreciate any good, exciting, technical fights whether it's at 155lb, 185lbs, 205 lbs, or a female bout.
...and NO, Gina is not the standard.
Respect for the women fighters but it is like the WNBA. "Mostly" manly chicks in a man's sport. Not doing as good of a job as the average male professional fighter.
Women's MMA does have a male fan following. The WNBA is similiar to the LPGA. Same fan demographic. Give it a while and they will show up at the all women MMA events.
I prefer not to watch it no matter what the promoter does to "package" it.
Did you just call me manly?
Check yourself.
Did you really just call female fighters manly? Are you serious dude? When was the last time you watched a bout?
I've also come to realize getting an e-mail back from Larosa may be the most difficult thing in mma :)
I don't think the average person even knows that women's MMA exists. If they did, there might be more of an audience/demand for it.
Sorry Steve... lol... I was planning on calling you tomorrow (monday). I have to check in with Bodog first.
Just to let you know I'm not an asskisser, or someone who's afraid to disagree respectfully... I disagree with your stance on all women shows. I believe that it segregates women's MMA from men's, and therefore sparks sentiments of inferiority.
I rather be integrated on a card of mostly mens fights. Here's another reason why... the fans, and other fighters can watch the fights back to back, and see that women use the same moves, can fight at the same pace, and be just as technical and as exciting as the men's bouts.
It is harder to accomplish this when there are all women fights, and no mens fights to compare them too, back to back.
You may disagree, but do you understand my position?
