World wrestling championships 2023

Going on right now in Belgrade.

US started strong. Vito Arujau, Zain Retherford and David Taylor won gold at 61, 70 and 86kg. Mason Parris won bronze at heavyweight. Taylor beat Iranian world champion Hassan Yazdani, who beat him for gold last year.

Zahid Valencia made the quarters at 92kg but since his opponent he lost to made the finals he got pulled back into the repechage and is going for bronze today. Zane Richards and Chance Marstellar are both out early. Marstellar won a match at least.

Last 2 up for team USA today, Nick Lee lost to Iran in the quarters at 65kg. Then to everyone’s surprise, 3x world champion and Olympic gold and silver medalist Kyle Snyder lost by tech fall to some wrestler from Bahrain. His main rival almost lost in the quarters too and pinned his Iranian opponent with 5 seconds left despite being behind on points.

US women start today too. 55 and 59. Both are in the semis, Jen Page at 59 beat a Japanese wrestler who was one of the favorites.

Sadulaev went down.

If Snyder wins in the repechage they will wrestle for bronze. That guy from Bahrain came out of nowhere.
