Wrestling....

Has once again fallen to BJJ. Look what happened to the All-American wrestler when he tried to go on the ground with a BJJ guy. Diego broke the wrestler -tight wearing guys arm.

Where is that punk wrestlenow? I would like to see what he has to say about this one. He is always running his fat mouth about BJJ now what does he have to say?

Haha funny

Good to see another wretler get his ass beat. They need some karma after running of the mouth that was done about wrestling vs bjj before the fight.

Did Diego wrestle at some high level college? no! did not matter becasue bjj kills wrestling on the ground.

I don't recall Bermudaz ever being disrespectful to BJJ. Phone Post

Sometimes the wrestler will be the BJJ guy. Sometimes the reverse. The way training is done now the styles don't really make as much of a difference as they used to.

Exactly!

And he was disrespectful about it. Ironic that he got beat by a BJJ sub. He got what he deserved.

wrestling is the best base for MMA. BJJ dudes are like the ninjas from the 80's...very concerned to keep their 'so dangerous' image...LOL

Not true at all. BJJ is an essential part of the arsenal for most mma fighters.

Best base this, best base that. Thats all you hear from these wrestliing nut huggers until they get there arms broken or choked out.

Wrestling is the only style in MMA that does not finish. Muay Thai guys can rely on that if they learn to stuff the takedown-Martin Kampmann. BJJ guys kill wrestlers in the ground without knowing any wrestling. A boxer will kill a wrestler if they stuff the takedowns- look what JDS did to Cain. He knocked the wrestler the hell out.

Wrestlers on the other hand have to learn another style and make it as important as their wrestling. Chael is learning this now which is why he will get better. He finally learned that he has to good at BJJ. The wrestlers who dont end up getting there asses whooped every time.

jerky66,

Then you got wrestlers like Ellenberger, Faber, and others like Cormier, Lawal that are stars already..

Sure, you need some form of submission training mostly to defend but that is a hell of a lot easier to learn than high level wrestling.

You named a bunch of wrestlers who are not champs. On top of that name a wrestler that uses the stuff.

Edgar- Stands and boxes
GSP- Did not come from a wrestling background even though the nuthuggers try to claim he did
Anderson Silva = Muay Thai and BJJ
JDS= BJJ & Boxing
Jones - Where did he Wrestle?

You got the majority of current champs who did not come from a wrestling background and still smoke these wrestlers.

Diego also proved that a BJJ expert will destroy a high level wrestler every time.

Jon Jones came from a wrestling background, he was a state champion in high school and he wrestled in college.

jerky66 is really grasping here.

You are headed towards going full retard.

in any case, wrestling = not good for UFC premiers on FOX. No one, not even the hicks of the south, wants to watch wrestling unless it's of the WWE caliber - which is fake.

You sound like a full retard with that statement dumb ass.

I just think its amazing that no matter what happens people like you will still keep hugging nuts. Out of all of the combat styles in MMA wrestling is by far the worst and it gets proven again and again. Efrain Escadero and Burmudez both had to learn that lesson. Wrestling is nowhere near the best base that is just nonsense. There is no best base. They all have there attributes.

Here is why wrestlers do well. It is because they come in with a halfway descent ground game with takedowns and are some of the best athletes in the world. If you make it through a wrestling program at Iowa or Oklahoma I think it is safe to say you are a better athlete than most. On top of that some of the ones coming into MMA are the best in those programs. It is not the best base it is because of their athleticism. Matt Mitrione proves that point. He came in with nothing but pure athleticism and was able to pick things up very fast. It is because he is a top level athlete who played in the NFL. He does very well and grew up with very little matial arts.

LOL at trying to escape an obvious fact...right now, NCAA wrestling base has proven the best base for MMA.

These dudes can pick-up BJJ very fast. Good luck picking up NCAA level wrestling in 2 years. Stann tried to do that and got his ass taken down by Sonnen fast.

In modern MMA, with short 3x5 min rounds, dictating where the fight takes place is HUGE, perhaps the most important aspect of the fight.

Ask any MMA fighter, if they were 19, and had 5 years, where would they train: under John Smith at Oklahoma State, Tom Brands at Iowa, Cael Sanderson at Penn State...or you would rather train BJJ under pick any random BJJ world champion ?

Everyone will tell you the wrestling because it is way harder to pick up, it builds much better athleticism and toughness. Once you have a good wrestling background, the BJJ you need for MMA is not much and it is a hell of a lot easier to pick up than high level wrestling.

Note that I am not saying wrestling > bjj, I am saying NCAA level wrestling is a way better base for MMA than any level of BJJ.

And we will see that more and more in North American MMA: NCAA level wrestlers will dominate it (now more and more are crossing over).
