WTF Happened to Fig?

Judging from last night, that foul may have save Figs from getting rekt. Let’s not forget.

If Fig didn’t show up as himself for multiple fights in a row, that’s on him.

He clearly beat Moreno the first time around. The hit count may be similar but you can’t compare the impact. Fig hits 3 times harder

I think he easily won minus the penalty. With the penalty it was a closer call.

Commentators and fans overrely on strike counts, IMO.

I think Moreno looked BY FAR the best he has ever looked. AND Fig looked bad by his usual standards. Both can be true.

(A comparison: Izzy fought incredible against Costa, who fought like shit. Both were true).

Don’t think so. Or that was only possible if Moreno was that compromised from the foul but it didn’t look like it, they went 5 full rounds of war. Doesn’t really matter know that they had the full prep rematch but just something to ponder regarding where Fig was at.

Thank you Wiggum. People can’t seem to think more than one thing can be true. I explicitly highlighted that Moreno absolutely knocked it out of the park on multiple levels and that I am also incredibly happy for him as well as for Mexico. But it was also obvious Fig came in different…I mean he came out patien/more measured clearly for one - that was an indisputable difference. And this isn’t to take anything away from Moreno again. Was Fig trying to pace himself? Did the cuts catch up to him? And before someone blurts out with another “Moreno happened! End of story!” type post, Moreno himself speculated this…and as noted by Wiggum and another in a previous post, that’s still on Fig who made the conscious decision to fight at 125….

No argument there, I’m just wondering what was up as we do on this forum.

Wiggs, how do u think Fig would do at 135?

Also, have you seen that ufc video on Fig’s background and folk wrestling style on that isolated island in Brazil? And what then do I think of him being taken down cleanly yet again with that double underhook trip that Moreno got many times in the first fight? Moreno is not a wrestling specialist, his base is bjj I think but perhaps he just out worked Fig everywhere. Fig is also a bjj bb with I believe it was Werdum in his corner but got dominated when Moreno got him down. Perhaps he was mentally defeated by Moreno at that point.

Fig did have a beautiful inside leg trip however but was just an isolated incident and could not put it together.

Also interesting to note that both of them got their tds in open space and off the clinch.

Side question for another thread maybe but have u ever tried judo? Asking because of the transitions from folk wrestling styles we talked about in the other thread like Kabbadi and also jacket folk styles like Georgian Chiadaba and whatever that Mongolian style is called.

Moreno was 3-3 in his first 6 fights. Crazy.

Fair.

I’m not exactly sure if anything was up with Figueiredo. It just seemed like Moreno was operating on a different level than he did in their first fight and Figgy talked a big game and started eating his words right out the gate.

I think considering the circumstances surrounding the first two fights, this is a great fight for a trilogy to determine who really is the better of the two. Until then, I’m not really sure who the better fighter is at this point.

Kinda hard to pass on Askarov at this point. Undefeated, just beat Joe B and Pantoja and had a draw with Moreno a couple years ago. If Figgy had been champ longer I’d be more keen on him getting the immediate rematch, wasn’t even a year.
