I don't have the extra cash right now to join a gym, so I was wondering if there was just any basic stuff i could do at home to get in shape?

Helpful if you have a place to do pull-ups.

forget bodyweigh squats. gotta make them worth it. what— are ypu going to do like 50 reps??
do bodyweight squat jumps instead.
also:
lunge jumps or "split jumps"
1-legged squats (other leg is suspended if you're awesome or foot resting behond yu on the bed)
Shoulders: handstand pushups. If too hard: pushups with feet really high on wall or other furniture
One handed rows on door knob.
Jump rope, pushups, squats, and situps. With those four exercises alone you can get in great shape.

Check out his book "Never gymless". There's also a daily workout in the forums.

pushups , situps, pullups, squats ...ANY of those moves can be challenging with creativity without ANY equipment and is basically what i started with and have done here n there myself
buckets of water for curls
dips off the edge of a tub, sofa or chair
made a homemade Bulgarian sand bag with a deisel truck inner tube for squats
single leg squats using a chair ....etc
i have even used hindu squats/pushups from MAtt Furey ....
burpees are gREAT too
and BJJ warm up drills
Find a local hole in the wall hardcore gym that charges by the month with no contracts. No way a person couldn't spare 20-40 a month. Even if you have to take a small side job just to pay for the fee. Unless you have a great set up at home with a great group of people to train with, it will not be the same. It is not just about the equipment, at a serious gym it is the atmosphere that will breed success.
Might not be what you want to hear but it is the truth.

ditto...good stuff. i'm not necessarily a Crossfit fan, but it's nice index for planning and worth a try for a change of pace.
Nice...thanks for this.
I killed the weight room about 6 months ago
My routine consists of a combo of Pavel's "The Naked Warrior" and Wade's "Convict Conditioning" books
Push ups (one arm), hanging leg lifts, pull ups, squats (one leg), handstand push ups, and bridges
For cardio I do tons of military burpees, box jumps, sprints, and jogging.
No need for a gym.
sub'd to remind myself to look up "bodyweight squat jumps"
ttt need this
^^I was actually planning on getting a pair of used adjustible dumbbells myself, but lots of mixed reviews on them, going to get a few pairs of used hex dumbbells instead.
