At a UFC event, before I had signed with UFC (fighting at the moment for Pride) I was with Tito Ortiz. I was his BJJ coach getting ready for his match against Vitor. This was way back in the day when UFC fighters could mingle freely in the crowd, whereas now the UFC brass prefer we don't. Well it was a few weeks before Tito was facing Belfort. Tito along with myself end up standing at top of the entrance way to the seats. We were standing behind some real drunk fans who were yelling this that and whatever to the screen... Then the promo "Tito vs Belfort" comes up. The guys in front had NO idea that we were behind them. Needless to say it was interesting to hear them talk openly. "Tito Sucks" "Tito sure got his ass kicked this time and that time" "Tito can't strike to save his life" Well you get the point probably what I am describing. So Tito has his eyebrows raised but is just standing there listening.. The promo ends and Tito waits about a minute, he say's "hey Dean, watch this, I wanna show you something" So about a minute later he just walks up next to the guys, standing next to them and acting like he is looking for someone. It takes these guys like 2-3 secs to realize who is next to them (keep in mind, they had no idea Tito had heard them trashing him verbally) one of the guys says "Guys, holy Fuck that's Tito Ortiz" all the guys turn and are like "Tito, I'm your biggest fan, you're an animal" and "Tito can I get a picture with you" and so on and so on... To Tito's credit he smiled and said sure no problem.. So he took some pics with them, then they asked me for pic as well. we talked with them for a minute or 2 and then we left. According to Tito, that is how most people are. Now whenever/if ever someone boos me, I just smile about it and look back at this moment. Lesson learned about human nature I think.
I had acquired once while on tour with Korn, some really cool sunglasses. They really didn't cost too much but they looked better than SUPER expensive ones, they probably cost less then $20 but they were perfect, I loved them.
Then a few months later when in Vegas, I had a drunk fan come up to me, really nice guy but he was drunk and he turned by me saying he's a big fan, but as he did, his elbow hit my sunglasses hanging from my shirt.. They cracked and fell to the ground further breaking them... he said sorry, he picked them up and said "ah well, these aren't really expensive anyways" haha the nerve of the guy!!
rjsvoboda -MyUnclesCreepy - Not a pro fighter at all but i have one story. my buddy was a manger of bar that had and underground cage fighting tourney every other month in Omaha Neb. It's was mostly drunk tough guys but a few trained guys would compete and clean house when they did
He always let me in to watch those when I was in HS i was 17 and one night he came up and asked me if I wanted to fight as one guy dropped out. He fudged my age on the paper work and I signed a waiver and I was the second fight.
No training but I was a very decent wrestler at the time in HS so I wrestled my opponent down and got the RNC and I was in heaven. Then an hour later my next fight came up and it was against this black dude who was huge! He preceded to knock and beat the shit out of me with ease and literally mopped the floor with me in the worst way
Fast forward to a couple years later I see the same dude in the UFC and he KOs the dean of mean in his first fight
Yes I got my ass beat by Houston Alexander before he made it big
What bar in Omaha?
It was at 84th and Center near Mangleson's.....forgot the name. Someone ran someone over and killed them there after fights one time....or a random night. Either way, I never went there and heard lots of stories about shit getting crazy there.

That's amazing.
I was fighting in the FFC on the same card as Leben vs Doerkson
Anyway. I was in the crowd after my win, everyone was pointing, congratulating, wanting to buy me drinks...the whole nine yards... when to on amazement my trainer, John Dixson, has me come over and talk to Carlo Prator ... and he was telling me how great a fighter I was and how impressed he was with me ..... Nobody could have taken away my high that night from hearing that.
TheOneDylanThomas -TheBulgarianAssassin - I have a few stories. I won my 1st (ammy) fight by leg lock submission. I was the last fight on the card so the place cleared out and I was celebrating and taking pictures with my friends and training partners. A few random people came up and took a picture with me. I was highly surprised because I was just an unknown ammy fighter but I was happy that people wanted a picture with me, lol.
Fast forward to my 2nd fight (still ammy), I fought for the same promotion and at the same venue. Before the fight, I went to the bathroom and was taking a piss. Some guy goes in the urinal next to me and starts up a conversation by saying something like "Hey, you're the guy that broke that guy's leg in your last fight. Good stuff." And we talked while pissing. I was shocked that I got recognized by someone and that someone started up a convo with me while pissing at the urinals- something that's against "guy code", haha.
Ha, good story. Have you gotten recognized much as a pro?
I am not pro yet. I should have specified that before my story. I am still an ammy fighter with a 2-0 record now. That why it was surprising that I got recognized, haha.

Good story. Thanks for responding. Seems like Prater has been fighting for ages.
Just saw your record. 4-0 all stoppages? Curious, why did you stop fighting?

Thanks for responding, Dean. Not sure how to say how much of a fan I am without sounding like a kiss ass, so I'll just say that. Got into MMA just before you submitted Horn. Been a fan since cause I was a fan of his.
Interesting story up there. Probably happens a lot. Pretty cool of Tito to handle it like he did.
Great thread! VU for OP, and thanks to all the green namers!
In for more stories. We need to get Nate Quarry in here!
Cool thread.
Great read so far!
I bet Dean has a few more!
TheOneDylanThomas -Hey man ill answer any question you want lol no worries... Yeah like I tell people it takes a different breed to do what we do(in the long run). Anyone can get in the cage but to make a long run out of it it takes a different mentality... If I wasn't able to do this I think I'd probably take a shot at the CrossFit games!!!Jay Haas -TheOneDylanThomas -Nope the only significant shot I've taken was Kenny fosters knee(woke up in a choke) lolJay Haas - 90% of fans are awesome people... You get the occasional heckler but that's life lol... At my last fight CFFC 24 it's was cool to see I still had some fans!!! Some came up to me after my fight ask how I've been and to take a pic... It's a fun experience!
Thanks for responding, man. I noticed that you've had a lot of fights in three years and only one decision. Bad ass. How's that on your body? Ever had a serious injury?
Well much respect to you, man. 21 fights since 2009.
One more question if you don't mind. Because you do fight so much, maybe you have the perfect perspective for this; I remember Dana saying one time about how fighters just sort of have a wiring that's different from ordinary Joes. Agree? If you couldn't compete anymore, is there anything else that could replace it? Would you go mad? Can you describe the feeling you get during a fight?
So that's four questions, I guess. Hope you don't mind answering. Genuinely curious.

Jay Haas -I took that wrong I thought you meant is there anything else I would do ... As far as your question... I don't think there is anything that could replace the feeling... I bet a bunch of the greenies on here would agreeTheOneDylanThomas -Hey man ill answer any question you want lol no worries... obsessis -I can't remember that place either but the address is correct. It was a very shady bar and lots of fights broke out on the regular almost like a roadhouse type bar if u will just way more urban lolrjsvoboda -MyUnclesCreepy - Not a pro fighter at all but i have one story. my buddy was a manger of bar that had and underground cage fighting tourney every other month in Omaha Neb. I only did it that night never fought in a cage again and I'm sure I sucked bad I just knew how to wrestle. Houston fought in Iowa mostly at the time and was like 6-1 or 7-1 at that point. I talked to him after and he was a pretty cool dude even apologized for fucking me up so bad lol
