The money goes to whatever charities the fighters pick. Fion is giving to Gaza, Gabi is giving to south Brazil where they had the floods and so on.
Plenty of Athletes have come out and talked about ADCC not treating the athletes as they should. Poor pay, making them share hotel rooms with other competitors they don’t know, paying for venues they have no business paying, paying drummers and pyro guys more money then Athletes etc, ADCC also talks about growing the sport then hides the number of viewers from everyone which is why they want to put it on YouTube. Because now they will have an idea of what viewership is really like. Craig is doing this the same weekend to force ADCCs hand in upping the pay (which has already now happened for women). Doing it another weekend gives them no incentive to change. And with Craig wanting to do this every year he only has to do this once to ADCC, if they make there adjustments then it can be different weekends in the future.
I’m stoked on it already booked my flights and hotel just waiting for the CJI tickets to go on sale.

Hosting the same week as ADCC is a cagey gambit by Craig. It’s for sure a jab at the ADCC folks, but it’s also a huge publicity stunt that gives his tournament massive amount of attention.
Had he done it any other weekend it wouldn’t have made the same splash in the community, even with the big prize money. Craig is cheeky enough to troll like that.

But the sport has never been profitable as a spectator sport and never will. No matter how many cocaine and autism jokes Craig makes. The sheik was nice enough to cover peoples travel to have a chance to prove they’re the best in the world. And if they win they make money doing the hobby they love, and if they do well they can make a living doing what they love teaching seminars, running gyms, selling instructionals, and doing privates.
Now people pretend these guys getting travel and hotels for free to grapple are coal miners in the 1800’s working 70 hours a week for $5 in money that’s only good at the company store.
I like Craig and I enjoyed the time I spent training with him, but he should quit bitching about them putting their profit into production and marketing, because without ADCC in 2018 and the push their marketing gave him in subsequent years, he’d be running an affiliate of Lachlan’s gym and making 100k a year to actually work full time
People keep acting like “without the athletes ADCC wouldn’t exist” but the reality is without ADCC the sport of no gi grappling wouldn’t exist.
Everyone who goes to compete at the Olympics doesn’t get a guaranteed 10k for showing up and a million dollars for a gold medal. And it’s actually a profitable venture.
Even Craig admits ADCC isn’t making money, he just wants their budget reallocated to the grapplers instead of production. Hence his joke “it’s a non profit”

I just have been around high level grapplers enough to know many of them have a very poor understanding of economics and a very inflated opinion on how much value they add to the world.
