Hugo Duarte: Luta Livre

It just occurred to me that my ishin ryu man condolences may be misconstrued as flippant, that's how we used to refer to each other back in the day, as in i would say i was a kyukushin man, another might say i'm a shorin ryu man, mu duk kwon etc. There was almost a gang like feeling of allegiance in those dark and simple times.

First tape of the rather interesting series, circa 1999.

Nice,I always wondered about this since I first saw it in a magazine a decade or so ago

It's interesting to say the least. I hope i didn't scare blabbermouth off with my screaming diatribe about wang chung. When i start in on that subject any semblance of decorum and rational thought goes on vacation. Another suggested video on youtube, uploaded by our old friend hal sharp. pretty groovy.

A question for our vaunted keeper of sacred texts (video is counted as text in this sense) DeBraco, would you happen to have a digital form of george hackenschmidt's book, the complete science of wrestling?

No, it’s one of the things I keep aiming to do but haven’t yet

Not sure if it helps but on internet archives the pdf of the way to live is there. A little looking around, it may turn up. I'll keep looking.

a monkey knocked my book scanner off it's table and it's slowed me down considerably. I have a ton of stuff to digitize yet, i keep aiming to build another one but haven't for some reason. This is more or less what i used

EDIT: I've bit the bullet and ordered an CZUR ET16, so in a couple of weeks will be scanning with wild abandon. Shooting bibles from the days of walking like an Egyptian and remo williams, Lebell's encyclopedia of finishing holds, Miyama ryu combat jiujitsu and various other Tigermask, Akira Maeda, and Hidetaka Aso books dating back to 83' will fall to my onslaught.

Bart's tape produced by Paladin, circa 2005. It's a shame the pinkos managed to drive paladin down, and although they published a few crazy books, they also published a lot of good stuff.

Nuts! I realized i might have already uploaded this one a couple years because i remember saying R.I.P Paladin press, we hardly knew ye. Oh well, it's probably impossible to find in the blasted wastelands that constitute the middle of the thread anyway.

two copies of vales shootfighing on the internet is not enough

Rob Kaman's very good Dutch KB set from 93'. Not even Toshogu could fuck this set up.

I've been digging through the catacombs of this thread.... and noticed this awesomeness. Can't go wrong with a Rob Kaman set!

that was a while ago. before youtube changed their card ratio

Another suggested video, this one uploaded by british pathé. We need this to make a comeback in the worst kind of way.

Ive just been reading through the thread and the Kajukenbo stuff was interesting. Am I correct in thinking that the name Kajukenbo was an acronym of KArate, JUdo, KENpo and BOxing? Did it also have some relation to the Samoan art Lima Lama?

I'm not sure, there wasn't any kajukenbo in my neck of the woods, it is pretty scarce anywhere east of the left coast.

4th tape of the set, circa 2001. Not bad.

4th tape, circa 2001. I believe saunders was originally from bart vale's, or one of his affiliates. These every day, you do not see.

two rare vids and not a single comment. Are you not amused? I'm sickitated!

this was another suggested video on youtube. Joel gold's interview with greg "ranger" Stott before ufc 15. R.I.P rules! Unfortunately, mark kerr refused to wang chung that night. Stotts crab like scuttering about was disturbing, kerr wasn't having it though.

I remember Chad Saunders. He started fighting young, around 18. He trained with Din Thomas, and I remember him mentioning something about teaching Din the leg lock he used on Jens Pulver in the WEF. He used to post on the UG.

This is an awesome find. I would love to interview him in the days to come, and see what he now things of R.I.P.?

"All other s.t.y.l.e.s. rest in peace!!"

i knew he was fucked as soon as he started that stutter stepping and spastic weaving. I fully expected him to eat a roundhouse to the face at the end of one of those "weaves". Eat a roundhouse to the face from a 270lb'r and you're going to have a bad day.

R.I.P Chad Saunders. I'm looking for the rest of that set. Denny was the julian "fries" Lane prototype
