Hugo Duarte: Luta Livre

I was going to upload a bizarre kenpo speed hitting video by "Dr" John Latourette that my brother bought in the 80's. He was always looking for the magic kung fu shit that would allow you to destroy any adversary without actually having to put in any work. He fought pka smokers so you would think he'd know that such a creature doesn't exist. Insanely, the speed hitting tape is still being sold.

That/those videos are online somewhere. I watched them. I remember those ads, dreaming how I could annihilate 10 people before they had a chance to blink.

It's insane. He's still selling the same video from 1987, along with newer titles such as "jedi mind tricks" and "Kahuna magic" or somesuch bullshit.

Tape 5 of Fergs AFGA set from 98'.

Will be converting Kimos' set next week as I get the time

Never seen those!

Always curious about what the hell was on them.

My nephew is bringing the tapes so i can digitize them. I'm going to watch a few for sure. When i bought the set i figured they would have Moreira on there so even if Kimo's tehniques left a little to be desired,  Joes' jiu jitsu might make up for it. The little bit of the one i watched, i couldn't understand more than a handfull of words from Joe. They must have sold horribly, i remember paying only around a hundred including shipping for the whole set, at the time the George Kirby Budoshin set was on sale for the same price. I writhed in the agony of indecision for a week!

The infamous full contact jujitsu from 95'.  Paul was already using high production values and good organization. Maybe should start a dead pool on this tape staying up.

1995-8-1

I always wanted to know what Paul's tapes were like.

thanks

ahhhh Master Viele. Probably the first known case of someone pretending they were a black belt in BJJ. and "master" Viele, too. Of course he called it "Ju Jitsu" and "Brazilian/Japanese" to get around it.
He also was giving grade ranks by mail..."you know have the opportunity to correspond with master Viele and receive certification and belt ranking in Brazilian/Japanese Ju Jitsu!

Wow, I have never laid eyes on Viele before! I was always curious about those tapes too. No longer. lol.

But I always assumed he was a Brazilian guy? No?

--What's his actual training background? Anyone know?

I used to buy muay thai gear from him in the late 80's before he got into the video business. I believe he's an attorney.

I suspect he was originally a kyokushin guy since that style had a stronghold in Rochester,NY and he sold muay thai gear.  I'd bet Paul could have beaten the shit out of most of his detractors also.

Tape 8 of the Farmer Burns video course by the infamous Matt Furey. I couldn't find any ads for the video course, but believe it was something like $650. I bought it on ebay for 40 or 50 dollars seven or eight years ago.

Here's a small sample of the contents description for this tape,

Another discontinued set from 93'.

Last tape of Carlson Jrs' self defense series from 97'.

I know people slammed Matt Furey for charging SO much money, but you have to realize, you're paying for production values, too.

I mean, the guy clearly went to the trouble of moving his living room couch AND layed down some very nice toddler puzzle mats, in order to film this stuff.... so,  realistically, somebody needed to pay for it.

The phone ringing in the background sets the perfect ambience for the rest of the tape. I was going to upload a tape of Dan Severns' evolution of champion series. The hands down, weirdest series ever produced by a non insane individual. It was supposed to be a 4 volume set produced by a company called real martial arts, they completed one dvd and the other three are raw, completely unedited found footage trips thru what i imagine the mind of Federico Fellini would look like. They are still being sold.
