Not even Fedor

for those saying brock would win...just out of curiosity...if you were an oddsmaker, what would you set the line at?

"People said the same things about Randleman. "He's stronger, more athletic, amazing throws and an amazing wrestler, he will take Fedor down and pound him out"."

I don't remember anyone saying a guy who has not shown so much as a hint of GnP in his entire career was going to pound Fedor out.

They would be in Fedors favor.  Maybe as high as -200 even.  It would be an upset... just don't think Fedor wins.

Haha...just remember that knee bar he was screaming from...Fedor would rip a limb off of that man!

I respect Fedor and all he has accomplished and believe that he has been tested and proven in ways that Brock has not. Based on what we've seen to date it is my opinion that Lesnar would leave himself open to a submission if fighting Fedor and would lose. That being said I also respect Lesnar as an all-around athlete and thank him for making the UFC heavyweight division entertaining again, and I do respect his abilities given the relatively short time he's been training.

if you were an oddsmaker, your job is to make money by setting the house at an advantage. if you're sure that brock is going to win, you would put your money where your mouth was. of course the line is going to move in favor of fedor. but if you believed in brock, you'd be making easy money on all of those bets, which would be attractive to any one with a brain.

fact is, you showed that you don't really believe in your own nonsense by where you set the line. money talks, anti-fedor trolling walks.

to be honest, i'm not that impressed with your mma knowledge either. =)

odds work like this...if you knew that brock was going to win, you'd set him as the favorite and fedor as the underdog. once idiots like me who think fedor would win saw that fedor was set at +200 or wherever you'd set it, we'd promptly mortgage our houses to bet on fedor. but since you're sure brock is going to win, it would be tons of easy money coming in to the casino. of course, if you were wrong, you'd have some very angry casino owners.

What you're describing is speculation, that's not what bookmakers typically do. The job of a bookmaker is to balance the bets on both sides. You don't care who wins. You make money on the spread, that's why you see odds like -200/+180 instead of -200/+200.

right, but you'd have to set the odds somewhere to start with. then, as far as my understanding of it goes, the line is adjusted as bets come in. if you felt that brock was the favorite, the initial line you set would reflect that i'd think.

As a bookmaker, ideally the line wouldn't move at all from where you first set it. It's all about making money on the spread, not picking a winner.

got it.

i suppose you'd set the spread then knowing that tons of people are going to bet fedor, and would give brock enough of a plus to make him an attractive option so that you balanced the risk.

so i guess a better question to the brock groupies on this thread is:

how much money would you put on brock on a straight up even money wager?
