Sumi Gaish and kimura trap illegal in IBJJF

xerxesxoe - what the hell is a kimura trap

A great way to get a swimming pool from a limp-dicked martial arts instructor.

...don't know why the imbecilic phrase was used in this thread title: i'm pretty sure it hasn't entered the popular lexicon a la 'Limp Irvin'.

Well, chalk up another reason to boycott I BJJ tournaments. Phone Post 3.0

I'm not even sure how such a situation would occur, especially off an outside single.

Opponent grabs outside single. I grab the kimura. Circle my leg out from between his legs. Jump guard while holding onto the kimura

If we can stuff the head back inside we're good to go though right?

I suppose that if someone lets you do that, you were going to win anyways.

There's almost no reason why you'd need to keep driving forward on a "head outside" single leg to finish it. Either run the pipe or cut to a double. Most of these next generation BJJ instructors have little to no experience in other grappling styles and it's the root of their butt flopping disciples DDTing themselves.

depends if u can off balance them enough so they open their legs for u to circle yours out.

but judging from your post you're just looking to undermine this scenario which is comical considering single legs aren't the forte of most bjj practitioners, myself included. Phone Post 3.0

all part of the conspiracy the keep the double gward pull in full effect. i have it on good authority that the mendes bros have paid beaucoup dinero to make this rule happen.

scoot, scoot...

Do you enjoy strawmanning? <img alt="Phone Post 3.0" border="0" src="/images/phone/droid.png" style="vertical-align:middle;" /></blockquote>

strawmanning? what is that? like when i snort coke off your mom's tits whilst in mid bang in a buggs bunny position?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strawman

because if you mean strawman as in the logical fallacy, you do not even know what the fuck it means.

I am making a comparison between 2 like things.

please get your GED and come back.

in the mean time stick with words you understand like: annoying, flea, on, my, and nuts

A straw man, also known in the UK as an Aunt Sally,[1][2] is a common type of argument and is an informal fallacy based on the misrepresentation of the original topic of argument.

This rule is retarded. Justifying it because other sports have more and more rules is not the point. It's strawmanning to defend your opinion.

Stay upset over nothing though. Phone Post 3.0

Almost everyone I train with wrestles at least once a week. I tend to forget that other BJJers don't.

Lol muffinho has kimura trapped the correct. Phone Post 3.0

I spiked a white belt on his head like that once but he was trying to look up and not roll with it. Other than that its never happened and thats my number one throw.

Why not ban hitting a head-outside single leg without any idea what you are doing instead of banning the counters. Particularly at higher belts.

I also don't really understand why this is illegal with a kimura grip but apparently not with a switch grip. Truly retarded.

I feel like a hard switch has more potential for injury that the sumi gaeshi or kimura counters. I guess if the guys too stupid to roll with it, the kimra could demolish his shoulder, but does that ever happen?

I've seen people get KO'd from really strong switches.

Judo Scott - I spiked a white belt on his head like that once but he was trying to look up and not roll with it. Other than that its never happened and thats my number one throw.

this is the problem with bjjers who overly narrow focused training and skillsets......ZERO ability to take a fall. even someone with a little experience can be surprised by something unfamiliar. I was teaching one njght and ass-sumed :( my uke (former judoka) would do fine during clinch work.......working off the 2on1 I showed ude gaeshi BAM!...HEADPLANT >:(

This rule issue exemplyfies the bullshit pressures that will screwup Jiujitsu when people train to the rules and narrowly define their skill set.........same as judo. I always use the example of my daughter's class working a cross knee pick and when new rule of no leg grab was implemented, they stopped doing it.

Anyone see the braulio Jacare mini doc where they show braulio hurting his neck? Is that the move in question? That was hard to watch with braulio yelling "I'm paralyzed! I'm paralyzed!" Phone Post 3.0
