Tito: I would beat Jonny in my prime

Why would anyone even say that? How big is this guys head? Phone Post

Funaki Masakatsu #1 - Tito was fucking awesome in his prime, before his back injury crippled his wrestling skill and explosive power. I pick JBJ to win this fantasy matchup due to his reach and wrestling ability but anybody laughing it off like he'd just walk through Tito like it was nothing is way off base.

I think Tito would have a pretty good chance to give Jones a run for his money. It wouldn't be spectacular but he could have definetely pulled off a decision back in the day with his ground and pound.

People have such short memory spans and tend to forget that there were other young, dominant fighters in their 20s in ufc history

I doubt even he thinks is true Phone Post

That may be, but MMA wasn't as evolved as it is now. Limited knowledge contributed to lack of skills. By this, I mean back then's Top 5 would be up in Today's Top 20.

A prime Tito would look good against Jon Jones for about 2-3 minutes. After that, Jones would be in complete control, and eventually hit a finish.

I love how one day Tito says Jones is already one of the all-time greats, and the next, he's saying he would've beaten him. Nice try, Tito.

Jones would destroy Tito in his prime. JBJ has beat better wrestlers then Tito. When Chuck and Tito trained together, Chuck could take Tito down at will, and Tito couldn't take Chuck down. That's why Tito avoided fighting Chuck. Chuck had better stand up, and wrestling. Tito didn't fight the best guys of his time either. Chuck was fighting the #1 contenders, while Tito was taking easier fights as champ.

NotJustA12er - Tito can't take body shots. That's why he retired . He was exposed by Machida and Evans . Phone Post
Exposed, exshmosed- Tito was in his prime in 2000ish. When did he fight Evans? 2009? And that knee machida hit him with was a bunkerbuster. Which he ate. Don't hate on him for that one. Phone Post

The sport has evolved so much I find this hard to believe Phone Post

Swagger Jack Daniels Jones would demolish Tito Phone Post

Tito is nuts. His career was beating 185lb. fighters plus old beaten up Ken Shamrock. And his back injury thing is an excuse. All fighters fight injured. Leading up to the Couture fight Tito was in the best shape of his life. He spent 10 weeks up in Big Bear for that fight. Double his normal time. He was 100% healthy for that fight. He might have hurt his back when Randy slammed him on his back a few times. He had a hurt ego not back. Tito in his prime wouldnt last one round with Jones.

I'd actually pick Tito here. His low-leg attack, speed, pressure and cardio sound like a recipe for beating JBJ.

You dont bet, and win, very often- do you?

Good observations. The major question I have is if Tito can get close enough to shoot a successful takedown without paying dearly for it due to Jones' long reach.

Tito's clinch strength was INCREDIBLE back in the day. If he can clinch with Jones and get double unders, I think Jones will be put on his back. When Tito lifted Vladdy like he was a ragdoll from the clinch, that was amazing considering the caliber of wrestler Vladdy was.

Combine this with his excellent cardio, he is going to give Jones a very tough fight. Anybody laughing it off like some joke just hasn't seen what Tito used to be. Phone Post

On, the contrary, I never bet, but I am usually right.

Family lore is to not use up your luck on things that don't matter- like sports bets.

In terms of fighting, Jon Jones has never showed us one thing from his back, and he's never showed us one thing about defending a quality mma wrestler, which Tito was at one time. The fights he didn't look great in, the guys were bringing a lot of pressure. These are all real things.

On the other hand, I've been wrong before. I'm not a prophet, just somebody with a good understanding of the game. Phone Post

Didnt Bones even wrestle at a higher level than Tito did in college?

Tito doesnt win this at any point.

Say it ain't so Tito. I had so much respect that Tito loved COuture and looked up to him so despite the trash talk, he never made excuses for that loss like he did all his other losses. Why the fuck is he doing this :S

There was this time I scored 5 touchdowns in one game at Polk high... Phone Post

If you think Tito would beat Jones you are

(a)Retarded or (b)Delusional, im not sure which 1 or combination of both...

Amusing to me that when Tito was in his prime, people were opining about his chance against prime Don Frye.

Now Tito's the outdated fighter. Phone Post

You understand we are talking about a theoretical land where it's the young and hungry Tito Ortiz vs current JBJ, yes?

This entire thing is an exercise in speculation.

No, I'm pretty sure I'm not an actual retarded person. Thank you for your concern. Phone Post

Don't use that Vladdy fight for validation. Vladdy took that fight short notice (wasn't it like 3 weeks or so? Somebody look on that as I can't remember the time frame). Proper 8 weeks and doubtful he would outwrestle vladdy. The next time he wrestled someone of that caliber in Randy he literally got his ass spanked.

Endowedwelter - Tito is trying too hard to stay relevant in his later years involved in mma. The other big names of his era like randy and chuck don't spew verbal diarrhea ever chance someone's willing to listen but I guess that's what's expected from the self proclaimed people's champ. Phone Post
Umm Chuck has asked Dana to come out of retirement to fight Jones...

That's way more ridiculous and delusional than anything Tito could ever dream to say. Phone Post
