Ohman a MMA fan - I don't know why any of the media don't ever ask Dana about how The Ulimate Fighter used to do over a Million view every week on FX now they can barely get 600,000 on fox sports 1...a channel that isn't even on basic cable Is this to hard of a question to put Uncle Dana on the spot? I'd like to know why there so content with it on Fox sports 1 . They succeeded way more on FX. It baffles me
Because that's the channel Fox wants them on and Fox is paying them 90 million a year. They are trying to build that network up.
Seems like instead of building a network they are killing the UFC. Didn't Shogun vs Chael get 1.7 million viewers? Now 500k is building the network? I'm no mathematician, but losing 2/3's of you audience doesn't seem like it's building a network.
The ufc is due for a major payraise because theyre in the club

lol to be honest, he's probably right. I just doubt that the raise will be significant. If the UFC made a new deal for less than what they're currently getting, that would be some crazy shit.
It would have been cool if they gave this one a shot on regular FOX. Just like everyone predicted, the move to FS1 is murdering the UFC's ratings, and in turn their popularity. Out of sight, out of mind.
You can't blame FS1. The UFC had it's opportunity with FOX - what were the ratings for the 1st and 2nd FOX shows? And then what happened to those ratings? They plummeted. The UFC fucked up bad, and now they're just getting back what they put in.
If they're looking for a quick solution, they could try to get the 1st episode on FOX as promotion... But you can't say the solution is to put the show on FOX. The UFC hasn't earned the right to steal FOX's audience. If this is all the UFC can draw, then that's on them. The show is supposed to draw people to the network, not the other way around.
I don't think TUF on FOX is the solution, just saying it was worth a shot. I don't think the move to FS1 is completely to blame, but let's not pretend as if the constant changing of home base channels is helping the situation. From Spike TV to FX/Fuel TV to FS1/FS2 all in the course of 4 years.
I think there are several reasons for the decline of the UFC's popularity (oversaturation and lack of stars being the main ones), but you can't say this isn't a factor.
JJSFC - What is with the American obsession with ratings? Who gives a fuck?
Well, fucks are given because higher ratings means better growth for the sport (both the UFC and as a whole). This results in bigger and better events; can also increase fighter pay.
Theres enough new stupid fans. I would be happier if it digressed a fair bit.
Its time to get UFC's best content off FS1. I haven't watched TUF since the HW season (i watched Brazil 1 online) but this season is bigger than TUF. UFC content is wasting away on FS1
Damn, that sucks. I actually will watch this season and was hoping it would do better. Foolish to do it without a live Fight Night lead in though. UFC has to be disappointed with this as there was heavy advertising during football this weekend. Rating in the comments by author here:
It is really time to put the TUF show to rest. Next year will be 10 years and they keep doing the same old thing (outside of a few cosmetic changes). The UFC has to come up with something better to get old fans excited and attract new fans.

Under most circumstances I'd agree. But this season has a lot of promise. The girls are fighting. It's for the belt. It's an old-school tournament. They truly have most of the best at 115.
Why the F does it even matter what the numbers are? They're creating something awesome here. If every season had this much promise, maybe we'd be in the middle of a turn around?
I just don't get the negativity contrasted with the current season. If you'd posted this thread with respect to TUF Asia, it would have been a little easier to swallow.
HandyDarsh - Am I the only one that feels like I'm not missing anything by not watching? Back in the day if you missed an episode of TUF that meant you had to watch it ASAP, now there's so many new seasons that if you miss an ENTIRE season it doesn't effect you much as a fan.
The whole thing is overplayed, the house drama ect.
Winning TUF used to mean something, now it doesn't. Being a TUF champion or whatever you want to call it has lost it's whole meaning to viewers, especially when they get cut.
Umm...I'm pretty sure winning this TUF means more to this division and any other division before it for what it's worth.
And the fact that I know this and didn't watch, doesn't that prove my point?
A lot of people did the same thing judging by the ratings. It's a smart idea to introduce the girls this way and I hope the season does great, but they keep going back to TUF because they've struck gold a few times with it. They've got to evolve the brand in new ways man, everything evolves and that doesn't just mean pump out 3 seasons a year instead of 1

It's a disappointing beginning but if it grows then who cares. Week 2 numbers will be what tells the story. Last season was fucking terrible, I'm not surprised that people are waiting to hear if this is good or not before they watch it.

It wasn't an attempt to bag on this season, more that the TUF show has become stale to the point people are tuning in.
It needs to be taken out to pasture and a bullet needs to be put between it's eyes.
But are you looking forward to watching this season? If it's a good season, why all the talk of retirement and negativity? Why not just talk about how good this season is? I just don't get the tone of your post. If you think this season is trash, and you're entitled to that, then I'd understand.
Are people dreading this season? I'm pretty excited about it, and I haven't really watched TUF consistently since TUF 10 (with the exception of the Live and Ronda seasons).
I could see this season slowly making a comeback in ratings as time goes on. This is a very different season with a very different goal. So far it is off to a solid beginning if the first fight is any indication of what is coming. The women definitely seem like they are going to bring everything they have. Should be interesting.

I guess our difference of opinion is about "stale". This season seems to have a lot of promise and buzz here on the UG. I feel like a lot of people are saying "I watched it and I liked it, but it's too familiar and the numbers are bad, retire it already, we've been asking for that for years". I feel like it's the kid who's happy with his birthday present until he finds out his friends don't like it.
